ZRUJNOWANY JAKO CZŁOWIEK, LECZ SPEŁNIONY JAKO POETA. PIERWSZE MAŁŻEŃSTWO T.S. ELIOTA ORAZ JEGO WPŁYW NA TWÓRCZOŚĆ POETY – KONTEKST BIOGRAFICZNY I LITERACKI

Celem mojej pracy jest wykazanie istotnego wpływu Vivienne Haigh-Wood, żony T.S. Eliota, na jego twórczość. Celem udowodnienia tezy, praca odwołuje się do biografii obojga małżonków, skupiając się na tym jak dzieciństwo i wczesna młodość wpłynęły na kształt ich tragicznego małżeństwa, na przykład jak rozwinęła się ich seksualność i co miało na nią wpływ. Moja rozprawa analizuje także literackie przedstawienie małżeństwa Eliotów – sztukę Michaela Hastingsa Tom and Viv. Bada również dwa utwory T. S. Eliota – sztukę The Family Reunion oraz poemat „The Waste Land” celem wykazania, że tragiczne małżeństwo było zarówno tematem oraz źródłem inspiracji utworów Eliota.

The aim of this thesis is to prove that T.S. Eliot’s wife, Vivienne Haigh-Wood, had a considerable impact on his works. To defend this claim I conducted research into the biographies of both Eliot and Haigh-Wood with a focus on how their childhood and adolescence affected their tragic marriage, e.g. how their sexuality developed and what influenced it. My dissertation analyses a literary representation of the Eliots marriage, namely Michael Hastings’ play Tom and Viv. I also investigated two works of T.S. Eliot – The Family Reunion and “The Waste Land”, to determine whether his disastrous marriage was the source of and subject to T.S. Eliot’s works.
