First section of the paper discusses the institution of entering into marriage by proxy in Polish family law and other legal systems, focusing especially on the conditions under which it is allowed to appoint a proxy who would be acting on behalf of one of nupturients. Second section concerns the problems of determination of the law applicable to the entering into marriage by proxy. In Polish private international law it is possible to make a choice of law on that issue. If the choice of law is not made, the law of the state in which the proxy is applicable, so the state where the marriage is concluded.
