Establishment of The Metropolitan Association of Upper Silesia and Dąbrowa Basin and the case of Jaworzno

Niniejsze opracowanie miało na celu prezentację procesu powstania Górnośląsko – Zagłębiowskiej Metropolii (GZM). Stwierdzono, że na uformowanie się obecnej metropolii silny wpływ miały czynniki historyczne związane głównie z rozwojem przemysłu. Ukazano problemy dotyczące ujednolicenia skomplikowanego kulturowo obszaru oraz podkreślono istotne znaczenie infrastruktury regionu. W pracy wskazano także pozytywne oraz negatywne następstwa wynikające z przynależności innych miast do GZM. Ponadto przeprowadzono analizę przyczyn rezygnacji Jaworzna z członkostwa w badanym związku metropolitalnym, stwierdzając, że skoncentrowane były one głównie wokół polityki transportowej miasta.

The study was to present the idea of origin and analysis of the activities of The Metropolitan Association of Upper Silesia and Dąbrowa Basin. It was found that the formation of the present metropolis was strongly influenced by historical factors related mainly to the industrial development. Furthermore, problems connected to unification of a culturally complex area and infrastructure of the region were shown in the paper. Subsequently it was made a cause analysis of the reasons for the resignation of Jaworzno from the membership. It was proved these reasons were related to the transport policy of the city. Moreover, the study presented positive and negative effects due to membership in the established metropolitan union.
