The necessity to introduce the idea of sustainable tourism in Zakopane and Tatra National Park

Z roku na rok liczba osób odwiedzających Zakopane oraz Tatrzański Park Narodowy jest coraz większa , a obecne trendy dotyczące produkcji, konsumpcji oraz rozwoju naukowo- technologicznego przyczyniają się do znacznych zmian w naturalnym środowisku, ekonomii oraz społeczno-kulturowych wartościach . Czy można więc zgodzić się ze stwierdzeniem Josta Krippendorfa, mówiącego, że ‘turystyka niszczy turystykę’ ? Pomimo, że Zakopane oraz Tatrzański Park Narodowy są miejscami ściśle związanymi z turystyką, można zauważyć brak działań w myśl idei zrównoważonego rozwoju. Tak więc, celem niniejszej pracy jest ukazanie czynników związanych z rozwojem turystyki, które wpływają na obecny stan rzeczy na terenie Zakopanego oraz Tatrzańskiego Parku Narodowego w strefie środowiskowej, społeczno-kulturowej oraz ekonomicznej, a następnie zbadanie opinii lokalnej społeczności w kwestii zmian jakie rozwój turystyki wywiera na powyżej wspomniane strefy , a finalnie wraz z pomocą ekspertów stworzenie rekomendacji działań, które powinny zostać podjęte.

Every year the number of people visiting Zakopane and Tatra National Park is constantly growing. Taking into consideration current trends of production, consumption and technological advancement – they all contribute to changes when it comes to the natural environment, economy and social and cultural values. Can we agree with a quote of John Krippendorf, who claims that “tourism destroys tourism? Despite the fact that Zakopane and Tatra National Park are places strictly connected with tourism, we can observe the lack of actions following the idea of sustainable tourism. Thus, the aim of the following work is to display factors connected with the development of tourism, that affect the current situation in Zakopane and Tatra National Park in three spheres: environmental, socio-cultural and economic, and then to examine the opinions of local community on the changes that the development of tourism has on the three above-mentioned zones. The final aim is to create a set of recommendation that should be taken in the light of sustainable tourism.
