Tematem pracy są zaręczyny i skutki ich zerwania, w świetle prawa kanonicznego kościoła katolickiego oraz prawa polskiego na tle porównawczym. W pracy przedstawiam również sposób kultywowania tego obyczaju w innych kulturach i religiach m.in w Judaizmie, Hinduizmie czy kulturze Romskiej.Instytucja zaręczyn będąca przyrzeczeniem sobie zawarcia związku małżeńskiego w przyszłości jest znana już od czasów starożytnych. Przez wieki jej kultywowanie nieco się zmieniało, jednak tradycja nie została zatarta a jedynie nieco zmodyfikowana.Praca jest nie tyle obrazem zmian w historii tego obyczaju co obszernym wywodem na ten temat.W poszczególnych rozdziałach odnajdziemy informację na temat historii obyczaju, nauczania kościoła katolickiego na temat zaręczyn, tego jak zwyczaj ten jest kultywowany w innych kulturach a także skutki rezygnacji z wcześniej złożonego przyrzeczenia zawarcia małżeństwa.

The main subject of my master thesis is the comparison of the consequences of the engagement’s breaking according to the Catholic canon and polish laws. What is more, my assessment introduces the way of cultivation this custom in the other religions and traditions such as Judaism, Hinduism or Roma culture. The engagement, known as a promise of further marriage, has been cultivated since the ancient times. For centuries the cultivation of the engagement has been slightly changed. The tradition of this custom has not been removed but only modified. Not only is my essay the reflection of the custom’s changes in the history but also the comprehensive study about this. In the chapters, there is a possibility to find the information about the history of the engagement, the teaching of the Catholic Church, the cultivation of this custom in the particular religions and also the results of resignation or cancellation of the engagement.
