Franciszek Petrarka and antique technics of oneself

Przedmiotem pracy jest stosunek Franciszka Petrarki do antycznego pojęcia filozofii jako „troski o siebie” lub ćwiczenia duchowego. Zawiera rozważania nad technikami pisania i czytania, które stanowią kluczowe formy egzystencjalnej „troski o siebie”. Praca dotyczy wymiernie wpływających na człowieczeństwo pozaestetycznych funkcji literatury. Tak zakreślony problem został omówiony na drodze analizy porównawczej listów Petrarki, traktatów, dzieła: "Tajemnica moja", wybranych tekstów antycznych oraz "Wyznań" św. Augustyna. Kontekst tej pracy stanowią również pisma Michela Foucaulta dotyczące zagadnienia związanego z pojęciem „technik siebie”.

The subject of this dissertation is Franciszek Petrarka’s attitude towards the antique perception of philosophy as “selfcare” or spiritual exercise. It contains deliberations on writing and techniques, which constitute the key forms of the existential “selfcare”. The dissertation concerns the notable impact of the aboveaesthetic literature functions on the humanity. This problem is discussed in a comparative analysis of Petrarka’s letters, treaties, the art: “Tajemnica moja”, chosen antique texts and “Wyznania św. Augustyna”. The works of Micheal Foucault concerning issues relating "the techniques of oneself” also create the context of the dissertation.
