Forming a New Identity of the Hawaiian Society Based on the Chosen Ethnic Groups.

Praca magisterska autora nosi tytuł "Formowanie się nowej tożsamości hawajskiego społeczeństwa na podstawie wybranych grup etnicznych". Oparta jest na takich metodach badawczych jak: analiza dokumentów i obserwacja uczestnicząca.Praca autora ma na celu przybliżenie wszystkich głównych wysp Archipelagu Hawajskiego. Jest to zarówno opis geograficzny, historyczny i społeczno-kulturowy. Kolejność przedstawiania wysp jest według ich znaczenia. Autor przedstawia pewne pojęcia opisujące czynniki i elementy kultury. Opisuje "Hawaiian Stew Pot" i związek tego zjawiska w kształtowaniu procesów adaptacji poszczególnych grup etnicznych na Hawajach. W dalszej części pracy, autor podejmuje się opisowi odrębnych grup etnicznych, takich jak: Hawajczycy, Chińczycy, Japończycy oraz Filipińczycy W każdej z tych części znajduje się charakteryzacja grupy Euro-Amerykanów. Przy opisie poszczególnych grup uwzględniano takie elementy jak: proces migracyjny, tradycyjne wartości z kraju pochodzenia, tożsamość etniczna, zmiany zachodzące w poszczególnych pokoleniach, strukturę rodziny, wyznawane wartości, miejsce w hierarchii społecznej, wkład wartości i kultury rdzennych Hawajczyków w grupy etniczne oraz wkład danej grupy w pozostałe grupy etniczne i Hawajczyków. Autor podejmuje się także opisowi Polaków, Polonii i polskich organizacji na Hawajach działających w okresie 1981-1995. Opisuje "Kościuszko Foundation", "Chopin Society", "Polish Cultural Society of Hawaii" oraz ich twórców. W ostatniej części pracy magisterskiej, autor odpowiada jakie procesy brały udział w tworzeniu nowej tożsamości hawajskiego społeczeństwa i jaki wkład wniosły poszczególne grupy etniczne w jej tworzenie. Autor skupia się na wybranych ideach i wartościach społeczeństwa hawajskiego oraz ich wkładu we wspólny rdzeń wartości na Hawajach.

The author's master thesis is "Forming a New Identity of the Hawaiian Society Based on the Chosen Ethnic Groups".It is based on such research methods as: analysis of documents and participating observation. The author's paper tends to decribe each of the major islands of the Hawaiian Archipelago. It is a geographical, historical and socio-cultural description. The order of the islands' presentation is according to its importance. The author presents some of the concepts which describe the factors and elements of the culture. He explains the phenomenon of the "Hawaiian Stew Pot" and its relationship in the development of adaptation processes of individual ethnic groups in Hawaii. In the next part of the thesis, the author describes such ethnic groups as: the Hawaiians, the Chinese, the Japanese and the Filipinos. In each of these parts, Euro-Americans are described as well. During describing each of the ethnic groups, such elements were taken into account: the migration process, traditional values of the country of origin, ethnicity identity, changes in each generation that lived in Hawaii, the family structure, core values, the place in the social hierarchy, input of the Native Hawaiians' values and culture in the ethnic groups and the separate ethnic group's contibution to other ethnic groups and to Hawaiians. Additionally, the author undertakes the description of the Polish and Polish organizations operating in Hawaii during the period 1981-1995. He writes about organizations such as: "Kościuszko Foundation", "Chopin Society" and "Polish Cultural Society of Hawaii" and their founders.In the last part of the master thesis, the author corresponds to what processes were involved in creating a new identity of the Hawaiian society and what input the chosen ethnic groups have had in its creation. The author focuses on the chosen conceptions and values of the Hawaiian society and their contribution to the common value core in Hawaii.
