Artistic issues of the painting Madonna and Child among angels from the collection of the Franciscan Fathers in Krakow

Celem pracy była analiza obrazu Madonna z Dzieciątkiem wśród aniołków ze zbiorów OO. Franciszkanów w Krakowie oraz zestawienie dzieła z innymi, pochodzącymi z kręgu Cranacha Starszego i warsztatu, a następnie próba wskazania autora dzieła. W pracy zostały poruszone następujące zagadnienia: opis prac konserwatorskich, analiza formalno-genetyczna, porównawcza oraz ikonograficzna, a także przedstawienie twórczości Lucasa Cranacha Starszego i pracowni wraz z ogólną charakterystyką środowiska naddunajskiego. Analiza obrazu w kontekście twórczości Lucasa Cranacha Starszego i warsztatu umożliwiła wskazanie dzieł zbliżonych formalnie do obrazu „krakowskiego”. Istotną kwestią stała się tu wymowa ikonograficzna i symboliczna tegoż, niemająca wielu powtórzeń w zbiorze dzieł wiązanych z Frankończykiem. W pracy została podkreślona rola Matki Boskiej, której przedstawienie było częstokroć tematem prac mistrza i pracowni. Najważniejszym wydaje się ustalenie, że dzieło niewątpliwie pochodzi z kręgu Cranacha, co potwierdza duży zbiór ilustracji zestawianych z Madonną z Dzieciątkiem wśród aniołków.

The purpose of the study is to analyze the painting Madonna and Child among angels from the collection of the Franciscan Fathers in Krakow and compare the work with others from the circle of Cranach the Elder and the workshop and then attempt to identify the author of the work. The following issues were raised in this work: description of conservation works, formal and stylistic analysis, comparative and iconographic analysis, and presentation of the work of Lucas Cranach the Elder and the studio, along with the general characteristics of the Danube environment.The analysis of the painting in the context of the work of Lucas Cranach the Elder and his workshop made it possible to identify works formally similar to the "Krakow" painting. The iconographic and symbolic meaning not having many repetitions in works associated with the Franconian, has become an important issue here. The study emphasizes the role of the Mother of God, the presentation of which was often the subject of the master's and studio's works. The most crucial finding seems to be that the painting comes from Cranach's circle, confirmed by an extensive collection of illustrations compare with the Madonna and Child among angels.
