The quality of life evaluation of the patients suffering from obstructive pulmonary disease

Wstęp - Przewlekła obturacyjna choroba płuc (PO-ChP) to zespół chorobowy charakteryzujący się postępującym i niecałkowicie odwracalnym ograniczeniem przepływu powietrza przez drogi oddechowe. Ocena wpływu POChP na funkcjonowanie fizyczne i psychospołeczne pacjentów była do tej pory przedmiotem nielicznych badań. Materiał i metody: W badaniu ankietowym uczestniczyło 50 pacjentów z POChP jednego z warszawskich szpitali. Badanie przeprowadzono metodą sondażu diagnostycznego z wykorzystaniem ankiety. Pytania zawarte w kwestionariuszu miały zobrazować wpływ POChP na funkcjonowanie w sferze fizycznej, społecznej i psychicznej chorych. Wyniki i wnioski: Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, że POChP wywiera znacząco negatywny wpływ na funkcjonowanie fizyczne i społeczne respondentów. Choroba wyraźnie obniża również jakość życia chorych. Najmniejszy wpływ POChP ma na funkcjonowanie psychiczne ankietowanych. 2/3 chorych uzależniona jest od pomocy innych, co staje się trudne wobec faktu, że 42% uznaje, że ich dolegliwości chorobowe stają się uciążliwe dla najbliższego środowiska.

Introduction- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a syndrome whose characteristics are progressing and not entirely reversible limitation on the air flow through airways. The assessment of COPD’s impact on patients’ physical and psychosocial functioning was taken up by only few studies. The material and methods: 50 patients suffering from COPD from one of the hospitals in Warsaw participated in the questionnaire research. The examination was in the form of a diagnostic poll (using a questionnaire). The questions in the survey were to present the influence of COPD on physical, social and mental functioning. The results and conclusions: On the basis of the research, it was observed that COPD’s influence on physical and social functioning of the responders is significantly negative. The illness also decreases the patients’ quality of life in a relevant way. The least of COPD’s influences was on the mental condition of the participants. Because of COPD, 2/3 of the patients are dependent on others for help, which is even more difficult for them considering the fact that 42% of them see their condition as a burden for those close to them.
