The Return of Treasures from the Exhibition "Crimea: Golden Island in the Black Sea": History, Issues, and Significance

W pracy przeanalizowano przesłanki, przebieg i wyniki procesu zwrotu tzw. „złota Scytów”, wraz z jego skutkami i znaczeniem. Celem pracy było wyjaśnienie istoty procesu, scharakteryzowanie jego złożoności z punktu widzenia trudności prawnych. Opisane zostały rozwiązania zastosowane przez strony sporu – Ukrainę, muzea krymskie i Muzeum Allarda Piersona w Amsterdamie – w celu doprowadzenia do zwrotu kolekcji, ich stanowiska oraz retorykę przedstawicieli władz i społeczeństwa. Wyniki badań pokazują, że przypadek ten obejmował nie tylko spór prawny, ale także polityczny i kulturowy, a na tle zmian geopolitycznych i zaostrzenia stosunków międzynarodowych między Ukrainą a Rosją, zyskał decydujące znaczenie, przekształcając się w prawdziwą „lawfare”, którą Ukraina wygrała.

This thesis analyzes the prerequisites, course, and outcomes of the process of returning the so-called „Scythian gold”, along with its implications and significance. The aim of the study was to explain the essence of the process, characterize its complexity from the perspective of legal difficulties. The solutions employed by the parties to the dispute – Ukraine, Crimean museums, and the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam – were described, including their positions and the rhetoric of representatives of the authorities and society. The research results show that this case involved not only a legal dispute but also a political and cultural one. Against the background of geopolitical changes and the intensification of international relations between Ukraine and Russia, it gained decisive significance, transforming into a true „lawfare”, which Ukraine won.
