Groteskowość Southern belles w wybranych sztukach Tennessee Williamsa i ich polskich tłumaczeniach

W pracy omówiono strategie retoryczne Southern belles w wybranych dramatach Tennessee Williamsa i ich polskich tłumaczeniach świadczące o ich groteskowości. W części teoretycznej pracy umieszczono biografię autora oraz rozdziały dotyczące stereotypu Southern belle, groteski, a także tłumaczenia dramatu. Część analityczna pracy zawiera analizę strategii retorycznych stosowanych przez bohaterki sztuk Williamsa, ich reakcji na strategie stosowane przez innych, a także didaskaliów, które dowodzą o ich groteskowości. Fragmenty zostały zestawione z polskimi tłumaczeniami autorstwa Jacka Poniedziałka. Porównano, czy w tłumaczeniu zostały zachowane elementy świadczące o groteskowości Southern belles. W przypadku różnic między oryginałem a tłumaczeniem, wyjaśniono w jaki sposób wpływa to na odbiór sztuki przez odbiorców języka docelowego.

The aim of this M.A. project was to examine the grotesqueness of the rhetorical strategies incorporated in selected plays by Tennessee Williams and their Polish translations. The first part of the thesis is focused on the biography of the author, as well as the chapters dealing with the Southern belle stereotype, the concept of the grotesque and the translation of drama. The analytical part of the thesis is aimed to examine the rhetorical devices used by the protagonists and by the author, for example, in stage directions, but also to review the first Polish translations of Tennessee Williams’ dramas made by Jacek Poniedziałek. The purpose of comparing the original with the Polish translation is to check whether the translator’s decisions influence the Polish audience’s reception of the Southern belles.
