Artykuł analizuje możliwe relacje między świątynią Raṅganātha w Srirangam (Śrīraṅgam) a innymi miejscami związanymi z tą świątynią, będącymi elementami geografii miejsc świętych w południowoindyjskim wisznuizmie. Analizuje on historyczne i religijne narracje związane z przeniesieniem procesyjnego wizerunku Raṅganātha ze świątyni w Srirangam do Tirupati/Tirumala w XIV wieku, w celu ochrony przed profanacją przez siły najeźdźcze Sułtanatu Delhijskiego. Wydarzenie dało możliwość połączenie świętych miejsc poprzez literaturę i rytuały. Artykuł opiera się na dwóch głównych tekstach żródłowych - Kōyil Oḻuku i Prapannāmṛta - i naświetla polityczne i religijne przyczyny podróży posągu.

The article examines possible relations between the Raṅganātha temple in Srirangam (Śrīraṅgam) and some other places associated with this temple and being elements of the sacred geographies in South Indian Vaiṣṇavism. The article explores historical and devotional narratives connected with the relocation of the Raṅganātha processional image from the Srirangam temple to Tirupati / Tirumala during the fourteenth century, to protect the image from desecration by the invading forces of the Delhi Sultanate. This event had also been a means of linking sacred sites through literature and ritual. The article is based on two primary texts - the Kōyil Oḻuku and the Prapannāmṛta and illuminates the political and religious reasons involved in the image’s journey.
