Russian science-fiction in the years 1920-1960 based on the example of novels "Aelita" by Aleksey Tolstoy and "Andromeda: A Space-Age Tale" by Ivan Yefremow

Niniejsza praca dotyczy historii rozwoju gatunku fantastyki naukowej w Związku Radzieckim w latach 1920-1960, sposobu kreacji świata przedstawionego oraz charakterystycznych motywów na przykładzie powieści „Aelita” Aleksego Tołstoja oraz „Mgławica Andromedy” Iwana Jefremowa. Praca została podzielona na trzy rozdziały. Pierwszy przybliża historię rozwoju science-fiction, sposoby kreowania świata przedstawionego oraz postaci, często wykorzystywane motywy, historię utopii w literaturze rosyjskiej oraz wpływ realiów sowieckich na ukształtowanie się gatunku. Drugi rozdział pracy poświęcony jest powieści „Aelita” Aleksego Tołstoja. Na przykładach z tekstu zostały przedstawione elementy świata przedstawionego, charakterystyczne dla fantastyki oraz wymowa ideologiczna utworu związana z postawą prorewolucyjną. Trzecia część pracy zawiera opis świata przedstawionego w powieści „Mgławica Andromedy”, wprowadzone zostały elementy charakterystyki bohaterów oraz sposób przedstawienia utopijnej wizji społeczeństwa. Zakończenie pracy zawiera porównanie obu lektur w kontekście rozwoju gatunku oraz wymowy ideologicznej.

The aim of this work is to show the history of the genre of science fiction in the Soviet Union in the years 1920-1960 based on the example of novels "Aelita" by Aleksey Tolstoy and "Andromeda: A Space-Age Tale" by Ivan Yefremow. The work consists of three fundamental parts. Chapter one focuses on the history and the progress of science-fiction, typical elements of the world depicted, commonly used motifs and models of characters and the history of utopia in Russian literature. The second part presents the world depicted in the novel "Aelita" by Aleksey Tolstoy (illustrated by the examples) and contains the analysys of ideological meaning of revolutionary propaganda. The third chapter introduces the world depicted in the novel "Andromeda: A Space-Age Tale" and describes an utopian vision of the future. The summary of the work contains a comparision of novels in the context of progress of the science-fiction literature and the utopian ideology.
