The reception of buddhism and hinduism in Poland

Celem pracy dyplomowej była analiza zjawiska pojawiających się w Polsce ruchów religijnych pochodzących z tradycji buddyjskiej i hinduistycznej. Zostało to osiągnięte poprzez przyjrzenie się literaturze popularno- naukowej oraz artykułom pojawiającym się w obrębie tematu. Zainteresowanie się wschodnimi tendencjami zostało ujęte w czterech rozdziałach, każdy z nich dotyczący innej grupy odbiorców. Opis grup odbiorców został poprzedzony próbą porównania ze sobą kultury Wschodu i Zachodu poprzez zestawienie ze sobą niektórych elementów wiary takich jak kwestia zbawienia, kosmogonia. Jako jedna grupa zainteresowanych tematyką wschodnią to osoby zaangażowane w związki religijne i wyznaniowe, w związku z tym opisane zostały typy ruchów religijnych i parareligijnych jakie pojawiają się w Polsce, z krótkim opisem kilku z nich w tym: Agnihorta, Medytacja Transcendentalna, Medytacyjna Stowarzyszenie Najwyższej Mistrzyni Czing Hai, Ananda Marga. Praca zawiera opis stanowiska jakie przybiera Kościół katolicki względem nowych tradycji. Ukazuje chęć prowadzenia przez katolików dialogu międzyreligijnego jak i stronę opozycji widzącą w dialogu zagrożenie. Ponadto zawarte jest spojrzenie na nurty orientalistyczne w kulturze masowej, rozdział o tym ukazuje na przykładzie jogi jak może zmieniany być kontekst znaczenia tradycji w innej kulturze i w jak różnych stopniach zaangażowania można z tradycji korzystać. Na przykładzie opisu kina indyjskiego ukazuje jak przekaz mediów można udostępniać wiedzę o obcej i odległej tradycji

The main going of my diploma project was to show the presence of the phenomena of religious movements, occurring in Poland, that derive from the buddhist and hindu traditions. The following had been achieved by looking at the scientific literature and popular science articles appearing within the topic.Interest in the eastern trends have been divided into four chapters, each of them covers a different group of recipients. The description of the target group of recipients was preceded by an attempt to compare the various cultures of East and West through the juxtaposition of certain elements of the faith such as the matter of salvation, cosmogony. As one group of stakeholders, interested in theme of the East, are people involved in religion and religious associations and therefore is has been described the following types of para-religious movements that occur in Poland with a brief description of several of them including: Agnihorta, Transcendental Meditation, Meditation Association of Supreme Master Ching Hai, Anand Marg. This thesis describes the statement of the catholic Church takes to new traditions and shows a willingness for catholic inter-party dialogue by catholics as well as opposition party seeing in the dialogue a threat. It also provides a look at the orientalist trends in mass culture, this chapter shows this based on yoga example of how the meaning of tradition can be changed in a different culture and how in the various level of commitments the tradition can be used. For example, the description of Indian cinema shows how the message of the media can share knowledge of a foreign and distant culture.
