Weird Wave of Greek Cinema set in the Greek New Wave of Cinema.

Współczesne kino greckie jest pewnego rodzaju fenomenem wyrosłym na zgliszczach jakie pozostawił po sobie globalny kryzys ekonomiczny, który dosięgnął kraj w 2009 roku. W swojej pracy podejmuję się próby ukazania powiązań pomiędzy greckim przemysłem filmowym, a sytuacją społeczną i ekonomiczną w Grecji. Za klucz do moich rozważań przyjęłam związek pomiędzy grecką Nową Falą w filmie i jej zawężoną częścią Dziwną Falą. Wskazuję na elementy filmowego medium jednoznacznie wyróżniające „dziwne” filmy na tle całego nurtu. Zaznaczam pokrótce kontekst surrealistyczny i neomodernistyczny omawianych dzieł. Szerzej analizuję je umiejscawiając na wspólnej płaszczyźnie tematycznej i poszukując powiązań fabularnych pomiędzy nimi. Swoje rozważania skupiam wokół czterech filmów: „Kieł” i „Alpy” Jorgosa Lanthimosa, „Attenberg” Athiny Rachel Tsangari, oraz „Miss Violence” Alexandrosa Avranasa.

Contemporary Greek Cinema is a kind of phenomenon grown up on the rubble of what is left after a global economic crisis that struck the country in 2009. In my article I try to show the links between the Greek film industry, and the social and economic situation in Greece. As a key to my considerations I took the relationship between the Greek New Wave in Cinema and its specific part the Weird Wave. I am pointing out elements uniquely distinctive for „weird” films, on the background of the whole stream. I note briefly their context of surreal and neomodernism. More broadly I am analysing them putting on a common thematic level and looking for feature relations between them. I focus my meditations around four films: „Dogtooth” and „Alps” by Jorgos Lanthimos, „Attenberg” by Athina RachelTsangari, and „Miss Violence” by Alexandros Avranas.
