Hidden Don Quixote. From Cervantes to unmade film of Terry Gilliam

Praca jest poświęcona twórczości Terry'ego Gilliama. Głównym celem pracy jest wykazanie, że twórczość reżysera zawiera liczne odwołania i nawiązania do powieści Miguela Cervantesa y Saavedry "Przemyślny szlachcic Don Kichote z Manczy". Pierwszy rozdział stanowi wprowadzenie do rozpoznania samego fenomenu Don Kichota. W rozdziale przywołane są interesujące teorie interpretacyjne powieści w kontekście jej wpływu na kulturę europejską. Rozdział drugi dotyczy twórczości Terry’ego Gilliama, która jako całość, stanowi szczególny przykład inspiracji tekstem Cervantesa. W tym rozdziale wskazano główne wątki, które reżyser wykorzystuje w filmach. Wybrano cztery najbardziej wyraziste przykłady nawiązań: mity arturiańskie i miłość dworska, sylwetki postaci takich jak: szaleńcy, kłamcy i blagierzy, relacja fikcji i prawdy oraz podróż Don Kichota.Trzeci rozdział jest poświęcony niezrealizowanemu filmowi „Man Who Killed Don Quixote”, który miał być autorską reżyserską rekonstrukcją powieści Cervantesa.

This Bachelor thesis is dedicated to the work of Terry Gilliam. The main goal of this work is to demonstrate that director’s creativity includes numerous references and allusions to the novel Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra's "Don Quixote". The first chapter is an introduction to the recognition of the phenomenon of Don Quixote. The chapter cited theories are interesting interpretation of the novel in the context of its impact on European culture. The second chapter concerns the work of Terry Gilliam, which as a whole, is a particular example of inspiration text of Cervantes. This chapter highlights the key themes that the director uses in the movies. Here are the four most vivid examples of references: arthurian myths and courtly love, silhouetted figures such as madmen and liars, the relation of fiction and truth, and the journey of Don Quixote. The third chapter is dedicated to unmade film "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote," which was to be an original director’s version of the Cervantes novel reconstruction.
