Generational variation in the dialect of Poronin: A lexical-phonetic analysis

Turyści, miłośnicy gór, badacze od lat interesują się Podhalem – przyrodą, sztuką, folklorem i językiem. Od kilkudziesięciu lat obserwuje się zmianę gwary, na którą niewątpliwie wpływa rozwój cywilizacyjny i społeczny. Poronin to miejscowość położona obok Zakopanego. Znajdują się tam liczne domy z wynajmem pokoi, kilka góralskich restauracji. Niniejsza praca skupia się na zróżnicowaniu gwary Poronina, zwraca uwagę na przemiany kultury wsi na przestrzeni lat. Celem pracy jest omówienie pokoleniowego zróżnicowania gwary Poronina, porównanie leksyki i realizacji poszczególnych cech gwarowych na podstawie wypowiedzi reprezentantów każdego z pokoleń oraz przedstawienie dodatkowych czynników mających wpływ na różnicowanie się gwary. Pierwsza część pracy przybliża historię i kulturę Poronina. Kolejne rozdziały dotyczą charakterystyki gwary wsi oraz pojęcia gwary wraz z omówieniem stanu badań nad polską leksykografią gwarową (szczególnie góralskiej Małopolski). Następny fragment jest poświęcony socjolingwistyce, historii badań socjolingwistycznych oraz relacji dialektologii z socjolingwistyką. Ostatnia część pracy omawia zgromadzony materiał – wypowiedzi wybranych mieszkańców Poronina. Na końcu znajdują się podsumowanie, bibliografia i aneks.

Tourists, mountain enthusiasts, and researchers have long been interested in the Podhale region—its nature, art, folklore, and language. In recent decades, changes in the local dialect have been observed, influenced undoubtedly by civilizational and social development. Poronin is a village located next to Zakopane, with numerous houses offering room rentals and several highlander restaurants. This work focuses on the dialectal variation in Poronin, highlighting the changes in the village's culture over the years. The aim of the study is to discuss generational variation in the Poronin dialect, compare lexical elements and the realization of specific dialectal features based on statements from representatives of each generation, and present additional factors influencing the dialectal differentiation. The first part of the work introduces the history and culture of Poronin. Subsequent chapters describe the characteristics of the village's dialect and the concept of dialect, including a review of research on Polish dialect lexicography (particularly highlander dialects of Lesser Poland). The next section is devoted to sociolinguistics, the history of sociolinguistic research, and the relationship between dialectology and sociolinguistics. The final part of the work discusses the collected material—statements from selected residents of Poronin. The document concludes with a summary, bibliography, and appendix.
