"I have to give myself a new birth. I have to give birth to a new time. The Experience of Motherhood in the Poetry of Anna Świrszczyńska"

Tematem pracy jest poezja Anny Świrszczyńskiej, z wyszczególnieniem wątku macierzyństwa w tomach "Wiatr" i "Jestem baba". Praca zawiera cztery rozdziały: "Macierzyństwo jako gwałt zadany wolności kobiety", "Macierzyństwo jako odpowiedź kobiety na „wołanie natury”", "Kobieta przewodniczką po krainie macierzyństwa", "Kobieta „troskliwą kwoką”".Poetka w swych wierszach opisuje położenie kobiety w obliczu nowej roli jaką jest macierzyństwo. Skupia się na presji społecznej, tradycji kultury i religii, a także porządku świata przy omawianiu tematu. Pokazna jest relacja matka - dziecko, matka - mężczyzna, matka - matka, matka - świat. Poetka uwrażliwia swymi utworami na sytuację kobiet, nie negując przy tym samej wartości macierzyństwa. Obok literackich walorów w pracy została ukazana wartość socjologiczna.

The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the poetry of Anna Świrszczyńska in the context of motherhood. Taking closer look at the poems from the volumes "Wiatr" and "Jestem baba", the emphasis will be put upon a number of problems such as family, male-female relations, sexuality and carnality, which are subjects of the poet’s verses.The thesis is divided into four sections: Motherhood as a violation of woman’s freedom, Motherhood as a response to the laws of nature, Woman as a guide to the world of motherhood, Woman as an “attentive broody”. What is also important, Świrszczyńska’s poetry is not only about the fine arts, but also about the representation of society.Showing the life from a woman’s perspective, the poet presents herself as a person without possibilities of choice. The only path she can take is that of motherhood, which is a constant fight with conventions and stereotypical thinking. In her poems, Świrszczyńska is sympathetic and empathic to mothers. Her poetry contains feministic look at the roles and statuses of women in the society.The poetry of Anna Świrszczyńska grows from her deep faith in the future. Although she did not influence her reality, she has been the voice of the next generations of women. In this dissertation, not only can we find interpretations of poems, but also sociological theories.
