Niniejsza praca przedstawia ewolucję doktryny chrześcijańskiej z zakresu demonologii. Demonologia definiowana jest jako dyscyplina teologiczna – dział dogmatyki katolickiej – traktująca o złych duchach, czyli demonach, ich naturze i działaniu. Ta chrześcijańska dyscyplina teologiczna wyrasta z demonologii biblijnej i w nieodłącznym stopniu wiązana jest z tematyką soteriologiczną. Opis dziejów diabła na przestrzeni wieków chrześcijaństwa europejskiego obejmuje przegląd najważniejszych pism, dokumentów kościelnych i traktatów teologicznych traktujących m.in: o pochodzeniu, naturze, zakresie działania złych mocy. Kolejne rozdziały ukazują rozwój doktryny demonologicznej, poczynając od ukształtowania się wizerunku demonów w tradycji biblijnej, poprzez teologiczne interpretacje patrystyczne, dzieła wczesnochrześcijańskie i średniowieczne rozważania na temat upadłych aniołów, na współczesnej wykładni demonologicznej Kościoła Katolickiego skończywszy. Ewolucja demonologii pozostawała rzecz jasna w nierozerwalnym związku z cechami charakterystycznymi danej epoki i jej programem ideowym. W bezpośrednim związku z charakterem rozważań na temat demonów pozostaje akceptowana w danym okresie dziejowym wizja człowieka i jego stosunek do świata, postawa intelektualna epoki. Demonologia chrześcijańska rozwijała się stopniowo na przestrzeni lat, mając za swą podstawę warunki zewnętrzne z jakimi zmierzał się Kościół w kolejnych wiekach swego istnienia. Ponadto, podczas studiowania tekstów teologów oraz nauczania Magisterium Kościoła na temat demonów, natychmiast zwraca uwagę fakt, że ich główne idee i treści formowały się jako wynik polemik z heretykami i interwencji kościelnych zmierzających do uniknięcia błędów w rozumieniu treści demonologicznych.Na początku przedstawiono w pracy nazewnictwo oraz charakterystyczne cechy istot demonicznych występujących w Starym i Nowym Testamencie. Zwrócono uwagę na nauczanie Ojców Kościoła i pisarzy wczesnochrześcijańskich oraz na pierwsze oficjalne wypowiedzi Kościoła w kwestii złych duchów i szkodliwości ich działania.W dalszej części pracy, na przykładzie wypowiedzi wybranych teologów oraz dokumentów soborowych ukazano dylematy z jakimi borykała się średniowieczna demonologia chrześcijańska, a które dotyczyły m.in: liczby demonów, ich cielesności i wchodzenia w kontakty z człowiekiem. Zaprezentowano kształtowanie się wizerunku diabła w teologicznych dywagacjach oraz na łamach oficjalnych pism kościelnych w epoce nowożytnej. Nowożytność cechowała się nasileniem zjawiska tzw. procesów czarownic oraz wydaniem licznych podręczników demonologicznych pod kątem funkcjonującej w owych czasach nauki o złowrogim oddziaływaniu demonów. Na forum współczesnych rozważań nad Szatanem na plan pierwszy wysunęła się problematyka osobowego istnienia złego ducha. Wobec powyższego przedstawiono najważniejsze rozwiązania tegoż dylematu zaproponowane przez teologów, a także oficjalne stanowisko Kościoła w analizowanej sprawie.Kształt współczesnej nauki Kościoła o demonach ukazują treści dokumentów soborowych oraz wystąpienia papieskie. Syntezę współczesnej demonologii przedstawia np. Katechizm Kościoła Katolickiego oraz Dokument Kongregacji Nauki Wiary.

This paper presents the evolution of Christian doctrine in the field of demonology. Demonology is defined as the discipline of theology - Catholic dogma department - which treats of evil spirits, or demons, their nature and operation. This Christian theological discipline stems from the Biblical Demonology and inseparable degree is bound to the theme of salvation. Description of the history of the devil over the centuries of European Christianity includes a review of the most important writings, documents, ecclesiastical and theological treatises dealing include: the origin, nature, scope of the powers of evil.The following sections show the development of the doctrine of demonology, starting with the formation of the image of the demons in the biblical tradition, through theological interpretations of patristic, and medieval works of early Christian reflection on the fallen angels, the demonology of modern interpretation of the Catholic Church. Evolution of demonology, of course, remains inextricably linked with the characteristics of a given era and its ideological program. In direct relation to the nature of reflection on the demons is accepted in a given historical period, the vision of man and his relationship to the world, mental attitude era.Christian demonology has grown gradually over the years, having as its basis the external conditions with which the Church is headed in the centuries of its existence.
