Film musical - the history and characteristic of the genre, focusing on its "twilight".

W niniejszej pracy licencjackiej została omówiona historia oraz charakterystyka musicalu filmowego, a także kategoria "zmierzchu" tego gatunku, która pojawia się w wielu źródłach go dotyczących. Rozważania na ten temat zaczęłam od przedstawienia definicji musicalu, nawiązując do różnych typów jego rodowodu - muzycznego, teatralnego i filmowego. Historię musicalu zakreśliłam zaczynając od pierwszych znanych gatunków scenicznych, aby opisując kolejne gatunki prekursorskie dla musicalu, przejść płynnie do jego początków w kinie. Następnie opisałam musical filmowy i jego najważniejsze dzieła w pierwszej połowie XX w., aby następnie zająć się wspomnianym już "zmierzchem", który przypada na drugą połowę tegoż wieku. W tym czasie musicale filmowe nadal powstawały, przybierały jednak inną formę od tradycyjnie pojmowanego gatunku - były bardziej mroczne lub były wykorzystywane w animacjach. Ostatni rozdział poświęciłam musicalowi filmowemu XXI wieku, wraz z omówieniem głównych tendencji, m.in w wyborze ścieżki dźwiękowej czy odtwórców głównych ról.

This essay revolves around the history and characterization of film musical as well as its "evening" period which is described in many publications. My paper begins with presentation of the definition of film musical and establishment of different types of its origin - from music, theatre and film. I described the history of musical starting from the earliest stage genres and swiftly ending on its beginnings in the cinema. Furthermore, I included the most important film musicals of the first half of the 20th century, while the second half was described as belonging to the earlier mentioned "evening" of musicals. In that time, film musicals were still made but their form was considerably different from the traditional sense of that genre - they were much darker or were used in the animations. The last chapter explores solely film musicals from the 21st century and their main trends considering soundtracks and lead casts.
