American transphobia. Exclusion of transsexual and transgender people from military service in the United States - case study.

Tematem mojej pracy magisterskiej jest wykluczenie osób transpłciowych z wojska w Stanach Zjednoczonych. We wprowadzeniu znalazło się przybliżenie tematyki oraz terminologii związanej z transpłciowością, a także zestawienie literatury. Rozdział pierwszy stanowi dynamiczny przegląd tego jak kształtowało się samo zjawisko oraz jak w tym zakresie rozwijała się medycyna. Analiza zawarta w drugim rozdziale zogniskowana jest na zidentyfikowanie barier jakie ograniczają osobom z tej społeczności dostanie się do wojska bądź czynne pełnienie służby. Przeszkody te zostały także zestawione z raportami naukowymi oraz argumentami podważającymi je. Efektem tego jest wyodrębnienie zwolenników oraz przeciwników włączenia do armii osób transpłciowych oraz analiza merytorycznej wartości argumentacji obu stron. Ostatni rozdział poświęcony został aktualnej sytuacji mniejszości w sektorze wojskowym w obliczu prezydentury Donalda J. Trumpa i wprowadzonemu przez niego zakazowi. Zakończenie jest podsumowaniem przeprowadzonych przeze mnie badań, które umożliwiły potwierdzenie obu postawionych przeze mnie w pracy tez. Pierwszej mówiącej o istnieniu konotacji między działaniami prezydenta Trumpa dążącymi do wykluczenia osób transpłciowych z armii, a podyktowaną ideologią konserwatywną argumentacją popierającą je oraz drugiej zakładającej, że osoby transpłciowe są najbardziej wykluczoną z wojska mniejszością w Stanach Zjednoczonych.

The topic of my master’s thesis is exclusion of transgender people from military service in the United States. Introduction contains general description of the subject area and terminology related to transgender issues as well as profile of the literature I used. First chapter is a dynamic review of how the phenomenon had been forming and how health sciences had been developing in that matter. Analysis in the second chapter is focused on identifying barriers restricting transgender people from applying for a position in the army or active military service. Those obstacles are weighted against scientific reports and argumentation which are calling them into question. Supporters and opponents of the idea of allowing transgender people to serve openly are presented mainly to look into substantive value of their arguments. The last chapter is devoted to current situation of the transgender minority in the military sector in the face of presidency of Donald J. Trump and the transgender ban he introduced. Conclusion is a summary of the research I conducted which led to confirmation of both of my thesis. The first one about existing connotations between president Trumps’ actions banning transgender people from military and his ideologically conservative arguments reinforcing them and the second one assuming that transgender people constitutes a minority that is excluded from military service in the United States in the worst manner comparing to other minorities.
