Game of chicken. Analyzing cease-fire negotiations during conflict between Israel and Hamas in the year 2014 with the use of game theory.

Gra w cykora jest nieodłącznym elementem teorii gier. Przy jej wykorzystaniu można dokonywać analizy wielu sytuacji konfliktowych. Ta praca skupia się na analizie negocjacji rozejmowych między Izraelem a Hamasem latem 2014 roku. W pierwszym rozdziale omówione są wydarzenia, które prowadziły do wybuchu konfliktu zbrojnego, od powstania palestyńskiego rządu jedności Fatahu i Hamasu, poprzez zabicie trzech młodych Izraelczyków i Palestyńczyka, aż po pierwsze wymiany ognia. W drugim rozdziale omówione są podstawowe pojęcia teorii gier i przedstawione zostają przykładowe gry i sytuacje decyzyjne. Trzeci rozdział skupia się na przeprowadzeniu analizy negocjacji przy wykorzystaniu teorii gier, a w szczególności gry w cykora. Praca ma odpowiedzieć na pytanie o to, na ile podobna była sytuacja polityczna między Izraelem a Hamasem w 2014 roku do klasycznej narracji gry w cykora.

Game of chicken is an inseparable element of the game theory. It can be used for the analysis of various conflict situations. This thesis focuses on the analysis of cease fire negotiations between Israel and Hamas in the summer of 2014. The first chapter focuses on the events that led to the armed conflict, beginning with the Palestinian unity government of Fatah and Hamas, through the killing of three young Israelis and one Palestinian, up to the first fire exchanges. The second chapter provides the explanation of basic game theory terms and introduce sample games and decision situations. The third chapter is the analysis of the negotiations with the use of game theory and especially the game of chicken. The works main aim is to provide the answer to the question of how similar was the political situation between Israel and Hamas in the year 2014 to the classic narration of the game of chicken.
