Thematic vocabulary in the theory and practice of Polish linguistics

Artykuł zawiera przegląd badań nad słownictwem tematycznym. Stosunkowo szczegółowe przedstawienie ich rozwoju historycznego, poczynając od szesnastowiecznych słowników tematycznych, kończąc na współczesnych publikacjach z tego zakresu, ma ułatwić precyzyjne ujęcie istoty pojęcia zarówno w aspekcie teoretycznym, jak i pragmatycznym, a także komparatystycznym. Kolejno omawia się: 1) prekursorskie badania francuskie z połowy XX w. poświęcone słownictwu tematycznemu zdefi niowanemu przez R. Michéa; 2) polskie prace, głównie publikacje W. Miodunki, który tę problematykę wprowadził do lingwistyki polskiej, rozwijała ją na materiale ogólnopolskim Z. Cygal-Krupa; 3) liczne zastosowania metodologii słownictwa tematycznego w różnorodnych dziedzinach badań językoznawczych typu: glottodydaktyka, socjolingwistyka i dialektologia, szeroko pojęta stylistyka i z nimi związane dyscypliny. Artykuł kończy postulat konieczności opracowania dużego słownika tematycznego współczesnej polszczyzny.

The paper contains a review of the research on thematic vocabulary. The relatively detailed picture of its historical evolution, starting from the 16th century thematic dictionaries and ending with contemporary publications in this field, aims to facilitate the accurate presentation of the nature of this concept from a theoretical, pragmatic and comparatist perspective. The paper successively discusses: 1) the pioneering French research from the mid-20th century, devoted to thematic vocabulary as defined by R. Miché; 2) Polish works, mainly the publications by W. Miodunka who introduced this subject into Polish linguistics, it was further elaborated on by Z. Cygal-Krupa on the basis of Polish linguistic material; 3) numerous applications of thematic vocabulary methodology in various areas of linguistic research such as: language education, sociolinguistics, dialectology, broadly understood stylistics and the related disciplines. The paper concludes by indicating the necessity of creating a large thematic dictionary of the contemporary Polish language.
