Reading in preferences of Hugon Kołłątaj (1750-1812)

Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy są zainteresowania czytelnicze Hugona Kołłątaja. Na podstawie zanalizowanych źródeł stworzono spis publikacji, które były czytane przez niego. Lista lektur jest dowodem na to, że Kołłątaj czytał dzieła popularne w epoce Oświecenia. Dowiedziono tego po porównaniu z preferencjami czytelniczych profesorów Szkoły Głównej Koronnej oraz Uniwersytetu Wileńskiego. Praca składa się czterech rozdziałów. W pierwszym dokonano charakterystyki epoki Oświecenia, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem ruchu wydawniczego. Omówiono główne nurty oświeceniowe oraz wybrane wydarzenia historyczne, których aktywnym członkiem był Hugo Kołłątaj. Kolejny rozdział przybliża sylwetkę Kołłątaja, z podkreśleniem jego roli w rozwoju bibliotekarstwa polskiego. W rozdziale trzecim opisano źródła zawierające informacje o czytelnictwie Kołłątaja oraz sporządzono listę jego lektur. W ostatnim rozdziale omówiono zakres tematyczny czytanych oraz wybrane dzieła znajdujące się w księgozbiorze księdza Kołłątaja. Dokonano w nim również porównania lektur Kołłątaja z lekturami krakowskich i wileńskich profesorów.

The aim of this study was to describe reading in preferences of Hugon Kołłątaj. Based on the analysed original sources the list of Kołłątaj’s reading matters has been created. According to the list, it was proven that Kołłątaj used to read literary works which were widely popular in the Enlightenment. It has been concluded after the comparison with reading preferences of professors of the Main Crown School as well as the Vilnius University. The study has been divided into four parts. In the first one, the Enlightenment has been characterized with special emphasis laid on publishing activity. Main currents of Enlightenment have been described. Additionally, several historical events, in which Kołłątaj actively participated, have been mentioned. In the next chapter, Kołłątaj’s professional activity has been described with a special focus on his contribution to Polish librarianship improvement. In the third chapter the sources concerning Kołłątaj’s reading interests have been described and his reading matters have been listed. In the last part of the study the subject matter of Kołłątaj’s reading choices has been discussed and selected literary works from his collection have been mentioned. Moreover, the comparison between reading matters of Kołłątaj and those of the Cracovian and Vilnius professors has been made there.
