Chaplaincy in the Polish Army

Duszpasterstwo wojskowe stanowi trwały element sprawnie funkcjonującej armii i państwa. Autorka pracy zapragnęła prześledzić tradycje służby duszpasterskiej kapłanów w Wojsku Polskim, poddać analizie podstawy prawne funkcjonowania i organizacji, a także poruszyć kwestie uczestnictwa duszpasterzy w budowaniu i umacnianiu pokoju na świecie.Treść pracy zawarta jest w trzech rozdziałach. W pierwszym przedstawiono tradycje wojskowego duszpasterstwa na ziemiach polskich od czasów najdawniejszych do roku 1989. W drugim rozdziale omówione zostały regulacje prawne i organizacja duszpasterstwa wojskowego po przełomie polityczno- społecznym w 1989. Trzeci rozdział porusza zagadnienie funkcji duszpasterstwa we współczesnych Siłach Zbrojnych RP. Poruszono kwestie nowych zadań kapłanów w kontekście aktywnego uczestnictwa polskich Sił Zbrojnych w międzynarodowych operacjach i misjach. Dokonano próby ustalenia statusu duchownych na gruncie praw człowieka oraz międzynarodowego prawa humanitarnego. Autorka wyraża nadzieje, iż duszpasterska troska o żołnierza będzie stale wspierana przez władze państwowe dla poszanowania praw obywatela i człowieka.

Military chaplaincy plays a particular role in the well-functioning Army and State. The author of this dissertation attempts to characterize the history of chaplaincy in Polish Armed Forces, analyse the legal regulations of functioning and organisation and also describe the participation of military chaplains in building and world peacekeeping.The content of dissertation contains within three chapters. The first chapter presents the history of military chaplaincy on Polish lands from the Middle Ages till year 1989. The second chapter presents the legal regulations and the structure of military chaplaincy after the politico-social transformation in 1989. The third chapter presents the new role of military chaplains in the context of participating in International military missions and operations. In this chapter the author attempts to determine the status of chaplains with reference to the International Law of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.The author hopes that the authorities will support the pastoral care of soldiers in order to respect citizen and human rights.
