The evolution of the drug market in Colombia

Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie ewolucji rynku narkotykowego w Kolumbii od lat 70 XX wieku, aż do roku obecnego. W pierwszych rozdziałach autor wprowadza w tematykę narkotyków, ich historię, właściwości, wykorzystania oraz sposoby aplikacji. W dalszej części autor przechodzi do głównego narkotyku jakim jest kokaina, która kształtuje rynek narkotyków w Kolumbii. Na przestrzeni kolejnych części pracy opisane są aspekty takie jak: upraw, ilość areałów, handel, szlaki transportowe oraz artykuły kodeksu karnego związane właśnie z tym narkotykiem jak i samymi liśćmi koki. Jednymi z głównych opracowań, które odpowiadały za historyczny obraz rynku narkotykowego w Ameryce Południowej, są książki D. Fishera pt. "Księgowy mafii", oraz W. C. Rempela pt. "Uwikłany – Prawdziwa historia człowieka, który pogrążył największy kartel narkotykowy świata". Drugi rozdział skupia w sobie wątki karteli Cali i Medellin oraz postać największego barona narkotykowego Pablo Escobara. Ostatnia część pracy przedstawia sposoby walki z procederem nielegalnej uprawy liści koki oraz handlu narkotykami. W tym celu autor skupił się na ukazaniu roli amerykańskiej agencji rządowej Drug Enforcement Administration, która odpowiadała za współpracę z rządem Kolumbii, wsparciem infrastrukturalnym i finansowym oraz zaplecze informacyjne. Ostatnim punktem pracy jest porównanie Kolumbii dwóch różnych formatów z XX i XXI wieku oraz nakreślenie przyszłości tego kraju w walce z produkcją i dystrybucją narkotyków.Praca ukazuje zawiłość problemu rynku narkotykowego z jakim zmaga się ojczyzna Escobara, obrazuje wartość kokainy na poszczególnych etapach produkcji i transportu oraz porównuje ryzyko z potencjalną karą.

The aim of this study is to investigate the evolution of the drug market in Colombia since the 1970s until the present year. In the first chapters, the author introduces them to the history of drugs, their properties, uses and methods of application. In the following, the author goes to the main drug, which is cocaine, which shapes the drug market in Colombia.The following parts of the work cover aspects such as: crops, number of areas, trade, transport routes and articles of the penal code related to this drug and the coca leaves. One of the main studies that were responsible for the historical image of the drug market in South America are D. Fisher's books entitled "Księgowy Mafii" and W. C. Rempel "Uwikłany – Prawdziwa historia człowieka, który pogrążył największy kartel narkotykowy świata".The second chapter brings together the threads of the Cali and Medellin cartels and the figure of the most popular drug baron Pablo Escobar. The last part of the work presents ways of combating illegal coca leaf cultivation and drug trafficking. Therefore, the author focused on showing the role of the US government agency Drug Enforcement Administration, which was responsible for cooperation with the government of Colombia, infrastructure and financial support and information facilities. The final point of the BA thesis is to compare Colombia's two different formats from the 20th and 21st centuries and to outline the future of this country in the fight against drug production and distribution.The work shows the complexity of the drug market problem faced by the homeland of Escobar, illustrates the value of cocaine at various stages of production and transport and compares the risk with potential punishment.
