Nirvana as an ideological manifesto of the generation X

W pracy zostało udowodnione, że zespół muzyczny Nirvana swoją muzyką, stylem, tekstami i postacią lidera odpowiadała potrzebom autoidentyfikacji pokolenia X i dzięki temu przyczynił się do stworzenia tożsamości generacji X. Pierwszy rozdział zawiera: uzasadnienie wyboru tematu na podstawie istotnej roli grunge’u w muzyce i kulturze, wyjaśnienie terminu „grunge”, zdefiniowanie terminu „grunge” dotyczącego kultury, przedstawienie przyczyn pojawienia muzyki grunge’owej w Seattle, umiejscowienie grunge’u w gatunkach muzycznych, zdefiniowanie terminu „Wielka Czwórka Seattle”, charakterystykę grunge’u na podstawie historii zespołu Nirvana- istotnej dla dalszego rozwoju gatunku, krótką biografia Kurta Cobaina, przyczyny charakterystyki początkowej muzyki Nirvany, opis początków zespołu Nirvana, charakterystykę i historię pierwszej płyty, wpływ wytwórni SubPop, czasy szczytowej popularności Nirvany i wpływ na scenę muzyczną.W rozdziale drugim opisane jest amerykańskie pokolenie X. Definicja Pokolenia X, cechy pokolenia X zdefiniowane przez Couplanda i analiza tych cech. Rozdział trzeci jest rozdziałem docelowym. Opisany jest w nim wpływ i znaczenie zespołu Nirvana dla Pokolenia X, powstanie pokolenia X, przełom spowodowany pojawieniem się Nirvany, a następnie jak Nirvana wpłynęła na pokolenie X. Udowadniane jest, że Nirvana pomogła stworzyć tożsamość pokolenia X i dzięki temu zyskała tak ogromną popularność. Opisany jest wpływ Nirvany na stworzenie stylu „grunge” w muzyce i w modzie (Nirvana jako główny kreator stylu).W podsumowaniu następuje udowodnienie tezy postawionej na początku pracy poprzez wskazanie niezwykłości Nirvany, jej specyfiki, dzięki której wpasowała się w potrzeby pokolenia X i wpłynęła na stworzenie jego tożsamości.

The dissertation proves that the band Nirvana through their music, style, lyrics and character of band leader is exactly what generation X needed to identify themselves, so Nirvana contributed to the creation of identity generation x. The first chapter contains: justification for the choice of topic based on important role of grunge in music and culture, the explanation of term “grunge”, definition of term “grunge” in culture, reasons of the emergence of grunge music in Seattle, grunge characteristics based on the history of the band Nirvana – important for the further development of the genre, a short biography of Kurt Cobain, the cause of the initial characteristics of the Nirvana music, the description of beginnings of the band Nirvana, characteristics and history of the first disc, the impact of the label SubPop, popularity of Nirvana and its influence on music scene. Second chapter describes American generation X: definition of the generation X, features of the generation X defined by Coupland and analysis of these characteristics. Third chapter is the target chapter. It describes the impact and importance of the band Nirvana for generation x, the rise of the generation x, breakthrough due to emergence of Nirvana and how Nirvana influenced generation x. It proves that Nirvana helped to create the identity of generation x and thus gained such immense popularity. It describes the influence of Nirvana on grunge style in music and fashion (Nirvana as the main style creator).Summary proves the arguments put forward at the beginning of the work by indicating the uniqueness of Nirvana, its specificity by which Nirvana fit to the needs of the generation X and influenced the creation of its identity.
