Intertextuality as an interpretative key of chapters: "Third day, After Compline" and "Third Day. Night" of "The Name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco

Niniejsza praca stanowi analizę dwóch rozdziałów Imienia róży autorstwa Umberta Eco: Dzień trzeci. Po komplecie oraz Dzień trzeci. Noc w kluczu intertekstualnym. Jej głównym celem jest zaprezentowanie zależności między owymi fragmentami a intertekstualnością oraz refleksja nad jej funkcją w powieści. Praca wprowadza także pojęcie czytelnika modelowego oraz prezentuje sposób przeprowadzenia narracji w utworze. Pierwszy rozdział poświęcony jest przedstawieniu różnych definicji intertekstualności, które umożliwią czytelnikowi lepsze zrozumienie teorii Eco. Centralna część pracy jest analizą wybranych rozdziałów: zostaje zaprezentowana struktura powieści, narracja oraz pojęcie czytelnika modelowego. Następny rozdział zawiera analizę punktu centralnego rozdziału: sceny inicjacji seksualnej, która stanowi źródło dla głębszej refleksji nad intertekstualnością.

The following thesis analyses two chapters of Umberto Eco’s The Name of the Rose: Third Day. After Compline and Third Day. Night in the intertextual key. The main objective of the thesis is to present the connection between the two and to reflect on the function of intertextuality in the novel. The concept of Model Reader is also presented, completing the analysis. The first chapter describes the various definitions of intertextuality that enable the reader to understand Eco’s theory better. The central part of the thesis focuses on the analysis of the selected chapters. It begins with presenting the structure of the book and then moves on to the concept of the Model Reader and narration. The following chapter is an analysis of the most important scene of the fragment: the sexual initiation in the kitchen, which is the reference point for reflections on intertextuality as an interpretative key.

La presente tesi analizza due capitoli de Il nome della rosa di Umberto Eco: Terzo giorno. Dopo compieta e Terzo giorno. Notte nella chiave intertestuale. L’obbiettivo principale della tesi è la presentazione di questo collegamento e la riflessione sulla funzione dell’intertestualità nel testo. Vengono presentati anche il concetto di Lettore Modello e la narrazione che completano l’analisi. Nel primo capitolo vengono descritte le varie definizioni dell’intertestualità, il che permette il lettore di capire meglio la teoria di Eco. La parte centrale della tesi si sofferma sull’analisi dei capitoli scelti. Inizia con la presentazione della struttura del libro e passa poi al concetto del Lettore Modello e alla narrazione. Nel seguente capitolo viene analizzata la scena principale: l’iniziazione sessuale in cucina che è il punto di riferimento per le riflessioni sull’intertestualità come chiave interpretativa.
