Linguistic struggles. Paul Celan`s poetry in translation by Feliks Przybylak and Ryszard Krynicki.

Praca ta miała na celu ukazać kształtowanie się poetyki Celana. W kolejnych rozdziałach autorka analizuje wiersze, które problematyzują kwestię języka poetyckiego. Puryfikacja języka oraz wynikająca stąd eliptyczność i kondensacja, analiza jego „nieprzejrzystości” oraz tkwiących w nim samym aporii, a w końcu próba przekroczenia ograniczeń narzucanych przez język to tematy kolejnych rozdziałów i zarazem program poetycki Celana. Zasadniczym pytaniem tej pracy pozostaje: co ostaje się z poezji Celana w tłumaczeniu. Analiza przekładów jego poezji ukazuje piętrzące się przed tłumaczem trudności, z których czasem nie da się wybrnąć. Głównym powodem, dla którego przekłady poezji Celana to zadanie bardzo ryzykowne jest właśnie jego koncepcja języka, która mocno ogranicza konieczne przecież decyzje tłumacza, co do tego, co można poświęcić a co można ocalić.

The aim of the thesis is to present the evolution of Celan's poetry. The author of the thesis analyzes the poems which problematize the issue of poetic language. The study of language purification, the resulting ellipticalness and condensation, the analysis of the “obscurity in meaning” and its aporia, and finally the attempt to go beyond the limitations of the language are all analyzed within the chapters of this thesis. At the same time, they all constitute Celan's poetic program, which is using the language as a means of going beyond human possibility of expression. The main question of this thesis is: which aspects of Celan's poetry are conveyed in translation. The analysis of translations of his poetry presents the difficulties that a translator has to face, which at times cannot be overcome. The main reason for the translations of Celan's poetry being a very risky task is his concept of language which severely limits the linguistic decisions that a translator must take as to which message may be lost and which may be saved in translation.
