,,Koralina" autorstwa Neila Gaimana i jej interpretacje w wybranych tekstach kultury

Celem niniejszej pracy jest omówienie noweli Neila Gaimana pt. ,,Koralina" i sposobu, w jaki inni twórcy - tj. P. Craig Russell w swojej powieści graficznej i Henry Selick w filmie animowanym - dokonali jej adaptacji. Pierwszy rozdział zawiera wskazanie elementów charakterystycznych dla gotyckich powieści dla dzieci oraz przedstawia zarówno treści edukacyjne, jak i elementy grozy obecne w omawianej powieści. Powodem ich zawarcia jest możliwość utożsamienia się dzieci z główną bohaterką, ale również przestrzeżenie ich przed nieposłuszeństwem, co zresztą jest typową dla gotyckich bajek kombinacją. Drugi rozdział omawia próbę zrównoważenia przez twórców niecodziennego połączenia bajki z horrorem, tak aby efekt końcowy nie był ani zbyt straszny ani zbyt infantylny dla młodego odbiorcy, jednocześnie jednak zachowując umiarkowaną wierność wobec oryginalnej fabuły. Analizie zostaje poddany wybór medium, kolorystyki, kreacji postaci i scenerii oraz wykorzystanie efektów specjalnych. Ostatni podrozdział zawiera porównanie wybranych elementów wizualnych obu adaptacji. Pracę wieńczą treściwe wnioski, podsumowujące jej główne ustalenia.

The thesis discusses a novella Coraline by Neil Gaiman and the way it was adapted by other creators - P. Craig Russell in the graphic novel and Henry Selick in the animated film. The first chapter describes features typical for Gothic children's literature and proves that Coraline contains both elements that are of educational value to the youngest readers and contents that may scare them. The purpose of that is to make the story relatable for children, but also prevent them from disobedience, which is exactly what Gothic children's novels generally aim at. The second chapter discusses how the aforementioned authors tried to balance the elements of horror and fairy-tale, so the story is neither too scary nor too infantile for a preadolescent recipient, yet simultaneously relatively faithful to the original. Their choices of the medium are analysed, along with the colours, characters’ designs, creation of settings and use of special effects. The last subchapter contains a comparison of selected visual elements of both adaptations.The thesis ends with conclusions, which summarise the main findings of the work.
