The characteristics of the Spanish in Cuba : Study of current cubanisms

W pracy analizowana jest aktualna sytuacja jezyka hiszpańskiego, jego korzeni historycznych i społeczno-językowych. Wybraliśmy ten temat, ponieważ jesteśmy zainteresowani kultura kubańska, jego odmianą języka i historii, która wydaje się krótka, ale jest bardzo intensywna. Kubańczycy, których jako pierwszych spotkalismy kiedy dotarliśmy do Barcelony, i podróż na Kubę były inspiracją do napisania tej pracy i poszukania więcej informacji na temat kubanizmow z których korzystają codziennie.W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiono krótkie streszczenie historii wyspy, aby lepiej zrozumieć zmiany zachodzące w języku. Ma trzy podrozdziały, na temat życia pierwszych Indian, przybycia osadników, i kończąc na wydarzeniach ery Fidela Castro. W drugim rozdziale prezentujemy niektóre rodzaje odmienności językowej. W każdym podrozdziale podajemy kilka przykładów charakterystycznych dla jezyka hiszpanskiego na Kubie. Wyjaśnimy pochodzenie wyrazów i ich znaczeń. Wyrażenia wymienione w tej części pracy zostały znalezione w publikacjach Amado (1967) i Paz Perez (1988), między innymi, choć większość przykładów pochodzi z krótkich wywiadów z Kubańczykami. Kolejna część odnosi się do ogólnych cech języka na Kubie. Piszemy na temat fonetyki i morfosyntaktyki. Opisujemy typowe przypadki dla tej części świata, które mogliśmy zanotować w trakcie rozmow z tubylcami. Aby przygotować ten rozdział skorzystaliśmy rwniez z artykułu Ruano Faxas.W ostatniej czesci pracy podajemy kilka przykładów wykorzystania kubanismow w literaturze i kulturze. Dajemy przykład dwóch wierszy wielkiego kubańskiego pisarza Nicolás Guillén. Wybraliśmy je, ponieważ są one jednymi z najbardziej znanych kubańskich przykladow poezji i zawierają wiele przykładów kubanizmow i innych zjawisk językowych. Ponadto, prezentujemy przyklady mowy codziennej ktore przynosza wiele trudnosci w zrozumieniu dla innych uzytkownikow jezyka hiszpanskiego. Przykłady kubanizmow w tym rozdziale sa zebrane poprzez wywiady z Kubańczykami. Poprosiliśmy o slowa i wyrazenia których użycie jest bardzo powszechne. Chcielismy sie dowiedziec co prowokuje najwieksze problemy w kontakcie Kubanczykow z Hiszpanami, czy sa to kwestie gramatyczne,fonetyczne lub leksykalne.

In this paper we will analyze the current situation of the Cuban Spanish, its historical and socio-linguistic roots. We chose this topic because we are interested in Cuban culture, its variant of the language and history that seems short, but very intense. Cubans who we met when we went to Barcelona and the trip to Cuba were the inspiration to write this thesis and learn more about the cubanismos they use daily. In the first chapter we do a brief summary of the history of the island to understand better the changes in the language of Cuba. It has three subchapters, mentioning the life of the first Indians, the arrival of settlers and ending in the events of the era of Fidel Castro. Helped us a lot a monographs White (S. F.) and Garrido (1992) where we could find the most important events in Cuban history.In the second chapter we present some types of linguistic variation. In each subchapter we give some examples of Cuban speech caracteristics for its users. We explain the origin of words and their meaning. Several expressions mentioned in this part of the work were found in publications Amado (1967) and Paz Pérez (1988), among others, although most of the examples comes from a short interviews with Cubans. To understand better and to explain the meaning of the sentences, we rely on several dictionaries of cubanisms as Spanish dictionary Molina Cardenas of Cuba.The next part refers to the general caracteristics of the language spoken by the Cubans. We write about the peculiarities of phonetics and morphosyntax.. We describe a typical cases of the leanguage. To prepare this chapter also we took advantage of the article Ruano Faxas How we speak and write Latin America: Cuba and cubanisms.At the end of work we give some examples of use of cubanisms in literature and culture. We give an example of two poems of a great Cuban writer Nicolas Guillen. We chose them because they are among the best known of Cuban poetry and contain many examples of cubanisms and other linguistic phenomena. In addition, much of the everyday or vulgar speech may be difficult to understand for spanish speaker. As we consider interesting, we present it in the last subchapter. Examples of cubanismos for this chapter gathered through interviews with Cubans. We asked about the cubanisms that use is more common and its meaning . What we are also interested in this thesis, apart from presenting several examples of cubanisms, is whether the variant of Spanish in Cuba causes some misunderstandings in the contact of the Cubans with Spanish spaekers and what aspects cause more problems: grammar, phonetics or just lexic?

En el presente trabajo vamos a analizar la situación actual del español cubano, sus raíces históricas y sociolingüísticas. Hemos elegido este tema porque nos interesa la cultura cubana, su variante de la lengua y la historia que parece corta, pero es muy intensa. Los cubanos que conocimos por primera vez cuando llegamos a Barcelona y el viaje a Cuba fueron la inspiración para escribir esta tesis y conocer mejor los cubanismos que usan diariamente. En el primer capítulo se hace un breve resumen de la historia de la isla para entender de mejor manera los cambios en la lengua de Cuba. Tiene tres subcapítulos, mencionando la vida de los primeros indígenas, la llegada de los colonos y acabando en los acontecimientos de la época de Fidel Castro. Nos han ayudado mucho las monografías de Blanco (s.f.) y Garrido (1992) donde podíamos encontrar los acontecimientos más importantes en la historia cubana.En el segundo capítulo presentamos unos tipos de variación lingüística. En cada subcapítulo damos unos ejemplos del habla cubana que characterísticos para sus usuarios. Explicamos la procedencia de las palabras y su significado. Varias expresiones mencionadas en esta parte del trabajo fueron encontradas en publicaciones de Amado (1967) o Paz Pérez (1988), entre otros, aunque la mayoría de los ejemplos proviene de unas entrevistas cortas con los cubanos sobre la lengua y los cubanismos. Para entenderlos mejor y dar la explicación del sentido de las frases, nos apoyamos en varios diccionarios de cubanismos como Diccionario del español de Cuba de Cárdenas Molina.La siguiente parte se refiere a las características generales de la lengua que hablan los cubanos. Escribimos sobre las particularidades de fonética y morfosintaxis que en la mayoría de los casos se parecen al español caribeño. Describimos los casos típicos para esta parte del mundo que pudimos anotar hablando con los nativos. Para elaborar este capítulo aprovechamos también el artículo de Ruano Faxas Cómo hablamos y escribimos los latinoamericanos: Cuba y los cubanismos. Al final del trabajo damos unos ejemplos de uso de los cubanismos en la literatura y cultura. Damos ejemplo de dos poemas de un gran escritor cubano Nicolas Guillén. Los elegimos porque son unos de los más conocidos de la poesía cubana y contienen muchos ejemplos de cubanismos y otros fenómenos linguisticos. Además, gran parte del habla cotidiana o vulgar puede resultar difícil de entender para un hispanohablante de España. Como la consideramos interesante, la presentamos en el último subcapítulo. Los ejemplos de cubanismos para este capítulo recogimos gracias a varias entrevistas con los cubanos. Preguntamos sobre los cubanismos cuyo uso es más frecuente, el significado y como modifican la lengua en comparación con el castellano de la Península. Lo que también nos interesa en esta tesis, aparte de presentar varios ejemplos de los cubanismos, es saber si la variante de español en Cuba provoca algunos malentendidos en el contacto de los cubanos con los españoles y ¿qué aspectos causan más problemas: gramática, fonética o solo léxico?
