Morality in borderline personality disorder

Celem pracy była eksploracja różnych aspektów moralności w zaburzeniu osobowości typu borderline. Pod uwagę zostały wzięte następujące kwestie: natura zaburzenia, charakter zmiany struktury osobowości w procesie terapeutycznym, motywacja do zmiany, kontrola impulsywnych zachowań, przeżywanie uczuć moralnych, rodzaj wyznawanych wartości i obecność poczucia sensu oraz orientacji moralnej. Badanie polegało na przeprowadzeniu wywiadu pogłębionego. Badanymi było 6 kobiet w wieku 19-40 lat. Potwierdzono, że zaburzenie osobowości typu borderline ma charakter interaktywny- fakt nadania diagnozy modyfikuje sposób odbioru siebie przez badanego. Zmiany jakie zachodzą w trakcie terapii mają charakter moralny i są nastawione na wypracowanie zdrowych, wartościowych relacji w stosunku do siebie i otoczenia. Motywacja do zmiany ma swoje źródło w chęci wzięcia odpowiedzialności za swoje życie. W obszarze kontroli impulsów kluczowe jest wypracowanie skutecznych mechanizmów radzenia sobie z emocjami co zwiększa przestrzeń samokontroli. Osoby z BPD często przeżywają nadmiernie poczucie winy, ale również poczucie dumy z efektów swojej zmiany. Zmiana może być też źródłem poczucia sensu. Orientacje moralne które przejawiały badane to orientacja na dobro innych oraz orientacja na zasady.

The purpose of the study was to explore various aspects of morality in borderline personality disorder. The following issues were taken into account: the nature of the disorder, the nature of the change in personality structure in the therapeutic process, motivation for change, control of impulsive behavior, experiencing moral feelings, the type of values held and the presence of a sense of meaning and moral orientation. The study consisted of an in-depth interview. The subjects were six women aged 19-40. It was confirmed that borderline personality disorder has an interactive character - the fact of giving a diagnosis modifies the way the respondent perceives herself. The changes that take place in the course of therapy are of a moral nature and are aimed at developing healthy, valuable relations in relation to oneself and others. The motivation for change is rooted in the desire to take responsibility for one's life. In the area of impulse control it is crucial to develop effective mechanisms for dealing with emotions which increases the space for self-control. People with BPD often experience excessive feelings of guilt, but also a sense of pride in the results of their change. Change can also be a source of a sense of meaning. The moral orientations that the subjects manifested were an orientation to the welfare of others and an orientation to principles.
