Medieval Inquisition. Historical and legal outline

Praca magisterska zawiera rozważania na temat powstania systemu inkwizycyjnego w średniowiecznej Europie. Rozprawa naukowa ma na celu ukazać zjawiska oraz powody, które razem wzięte stworzyły podwaliny do wytworzenia instrumentarium środków służących zwalczaniu m.in poglądów religijnych o charakterze odstępczym. Przedstawione zostały zagadnienia dotyczące herezji, poczynając od czasów starożytnych, na pełnym średniowieczu kończąc. Na bazie ukazania elementów doktryny poszczególnych ruchów heretyckich, prześledzono ewolucję podejścia Kościoła do kwestii obchodzenia się z nimi. Szczególny nacisk położono na wpływ ruchów dualistycznych na rozwój idei inkwizycji. W dalszej części pracy omówione zostały prawne podstawy funkcjonowania inkwizycji oraz zagadnienia procesowe.

The master's thesis contains considerations on the emergence of the inquisitorial system in medieval Europe. The aim of the scientific dissertation is to show the phenomena and reasons which, taken together, created the foundations for the creation of instruments for combating, among others, apostate religious views. Issues related to heresy were presented, from ancient times to the full Middle Ages. On the basis of showing elements of the doctrine of individual heretical movements, the evolution of the Church's approach to dealing with them was traced. Particular emphasis was placed on the influence of dualistic movements on the development of the idea of the Inquisition. Later in the thesis, the legal foundations of the Inquisition's functioning and procedural issues were discussed.
