Students' Sociolect of the Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University

Praca licencjacka „Socjolekt studentów Wydziału Polonistyki Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego” dotyczy słownictwa dyferencyjnego studentów, które jest przez nich używane do komunikacji między sobą.Celem pracy jest charakterystyka socjolektu młodzieżowego, a w szczególności socjolektu studenckiego. Jego realizacja w postaci analizy leksykalnej poprzedzona została dwoma rozdziałami o charakterze teoretycznym. W rozdziale pierwszym, poświęconym odmianowemu zróżnicowaniu polszczyzny, przedstawiono i omówiono najważniejsze klasyfikacje odmianowe (Zenona Klemensiewicza, Stanisława Urbańczyka, Antoniego Furdala i Aleksandra Wilkonia), następnie zaś dokonano charakterystyki odmian środowiskowych (socjolektów). W rozdziale drugim skupiono się na problematyce cech swoistych odmian młodzieżowych w ogóle i odmiany studenckiej w szczególności, przedstawiono także stan badań w tej dziedzinie. Rozdział trzeci jest prezentacją materiału badawczego w postaci słowniczka leksyki studenckiej; został on poprzedzony informacjami dotyczącymi sposobu gromadzenia materiału. W rozdziale czwartym natomiast dokonano analizy studenckiego słownictwa dyferencyjnego, dzieląc je na trzy duże grupy: zapożyczeń, neosemantyzmów i derywatów, słownictwo każdej z tych grup przeanalizowano według właściwych metod.Przeprowadzona analiza prowadzi do wniosku, że współczesny socjolekt studencki to odmiana zmienna, ekspresywna i dążąca do skrótowości.

The Bachelor's thesis titled "Students' Sociolect of the Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University" deals with the distinguishing vocabulary used by students in communication with each other.The purpose of the thesis is the characterisation of the sociolect of the youth, and particularly the sociolect of students. Its execution in the form of lexical analysis is preceded by two theoretical chapters. Chapter one, dedicated to the varietal diversity of the Polish language, presents and discusses the most important varietal classifications (those of Zenon Klemensiewicz, Stanisław Urbańczyk, Antoni Furdal i Aleksander Wilkoń), subsequently, it characterizes community varieties (sociolects). Chapter two is focused on the issues of the characteristics of youth varieties in general and student varieties specifically. It also presents the state of research in this area. Chapter three is a showcase of the research material in the form of a student vocabulary glossary. It is preceded by information on the methods of data collection. Chapter four analyzes the students' distinguishing vocabulary dividing it into three large groups: loanwords, neo-semantisms and derivatives. The vocabulary of each of these groups was analyzed according to the appropriate methods. Based on these results, it was concluded that the sociolect of the students at Jagiellonian University can be defined as a variety that is unstable, expressive and reductive.
