W pracy Pejotl-historia i znaczenie głównym przedmiotem zainteresowania jest pejotl i jego wpływ na kulturę Indian Meksyku i Stanów Zjednoczonych. Autor próbuje wykazać, że dla Indian nie jest on narkotykiem ale obiektem kultu objętym specjalnymi rytuałami. Duża część pracy poświęcona jest Huiczolom- Indian z Meksyku, którzy są głównymi czcicielami tej rośliny i traktują pejotl jak bóstwo. Ważnym punktem jest opisanie przebiegu tzw. „pejotlowej pielgrzymki” i związane z nią „polowanie na pejotl”. W dalszej części pracy uwaga skupiona została na to, w jaki sposób kaktus znalazł się na terenach dzisiejszych Stanów Zjednoczonych i jaka drogę ewolucji przeszedł od swojej dawnej, pierwotnej formy kultu do współczesnej i jakie znaczenie ma dzisiaj.

The author tries to show that the Indian is not a drug but an object of worship covered by special rituals.
