The impact of narcissism on having children and the need for autonomy

Celem niniejszych badań było sprawdzenie czy istnieją zależności pomiędzy narcyzmem wielkościowym, narcyzmem wrażliwym, autonomią a chęcią do posiadania potomstwa przez kobiety. Przegląd literatury wskazuje na wielowymiarowy charakter tych konstruktów. Podjęto próbę wykazania pozytywnych zależności pomiędzy wymienionymi wyżej zmiennymi u kobiet. Grupę osób badanych stanowiło 327 osób, w przedziale wiekowym 18-67 lat. Z 327 osób badanych aż 223 stanowiły kobiety. W badaniu zastosowane zostały dwa kwestionariusze służące do pomiaru narcyzmu i skali wartości. Ponadto osoby badane zostały zapytane o bliskie związki, posiadanie lub chęć do posiadania dzieci, okres w jakim osoba badana chciałaby aby jej pierwsze dziecko przyszło na świat, ile dzieci chciałaby mieć oraz jak powinien wyglądać podział opieki nad dzieckiem pomiędzy rodzicami. Uzyskane wyniki wykazały tylko jedną istotną statystycznie korelację. Była to korelacja pomiędzy potrzebą autonomii a poziomem narcyzmu wielkościowego w grupie kobiet, które nie wyrażały chęci do posiadania potomstwa. Pozostałe hipotezy nie zostały potwierdzone w grupie badanych osób.

The aim of this research was to check whether there are relationship between grandiose narcissism, vulnerable narcissism, autonomy and willingness of women to have children. A review of the literature shows the multidimensional nature of these constructs. An attempt was made to demonstrate a positive relationship between the above-mentioned variables for women. The group of respondents consisted of 327 people aged 18-67, from which 223 were women. The study used two questionnaires and personal value scale. Moreover, the respondents were asked about close relationships, whether they have a child or want one, the period in which respondent would like the first child to be born, how many children would they like to have and what should be the share of responsibilities of a child between parents. The obtained results showed only one statistically significant correlation. It was a correlation between the need for autonomy and the level of grandiose narcissism in the group of women who did not express the will to have children. The other hypotheses were not confirmed in the group of respondents.
