TŁUMACZENIE DIALEKTU NA PODSTAWIE POWIEŚCI „KOLOR PURPURY” ALICE WALKER

Przedmiotem poniższej pracy dyplomowej jest tłumaczenie dialektów na podstawie książki Alice Walker Kolor Purpury, w tłumaczeniu Michała Kłobukowskiego.Pierwszy rozdział zawiera zarys historyczny tłumaczenia jako dziedziny naukowej i przedstawia obecne strategie tłumaczeniowe. Następnie przedstawia definicję dialektu, ze szczególną uwagą poświęconą afroamerykańskiej odmianie języka angielskiego oraz regionalnym dialektom języka polskiego. W tym rozdziale jest również wspomniany wpływ każdego z tych dialektów na potencjalnego czytelnika.Drugi rozdział rozpoczyna się krótkim opisem życia autorki Alice Walker oraz streszczeniem książki i głównych problemów społecznych, które porusza. Następnie zawiera krótkie przedstawienie tłumacza Michała Kłobukowskiego i streszczenie adaptacji filmowej w reżyserii Stevena Spielberga oraz jej wpływu na ogólny odbiór powieści. Ostatni rozdział skupia się na szczegółowej analizie wybranych fragmentów z obu wersji językowych, z szczególnym naciskiem na poprawność językową oraz użycie strategii tłumaczeniowych. Wspomniane są też alternatywne tłumaczenia dla niektórych słów, które w osobistej opinii autorki pracy pełniłyby lepszą funkcję niż słowa wybrane przez tłumacza.

The following MA thesis focuses on the translation of dialects based on the Polish translation of the novel The Color Purple, originally written by Alice Walker, and translated by Michał Kłobukowski.The first chapter introduces the history of translation as a study and introduces current translation strategies. Later in the same chapter the term dialect is defined, with a particular emphasis on African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and Polish regional dialects. In this chapter, the effect each dialect has on the readers is also explained.The main focus of the second chapter is the introduction of the original book, the author, as well as the summary of the plot. It is followed by the introduction to the Polish translation, the background of the translator Michał Kłobukowski and a short summary of the movie adaptation by Steven Spielberg and the effect it had on the general public.The last chapter is an analysis of chosen fragments from both English and Polish versions of the book in terms of the linguistic accuracy and the use of translation strategies. It also includes suggestions of alternative translations of the mentioned fragments, which might work better considering the setting of the novel.
