The Melic Translation to Arabic Language Based on Songs from the Movie “Frozen”

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie technik tłumaczenia melicznego piosenek z języka angielskiego na język arabski. W pierwszej części przedstawiono zarys teorii tłumaczenia melicznego, a w drugiej analizę najczęściej wykorzystywanych zabiegów podczas tłumaczenia tekstów przeznaczonych do wykonywania przy akompaniamencie muzyki. Za przykłady służy sześć piosenek z filmu „Kraina lodu”. Punktem wyjścia w analizie był artykuł autorstwa Petera Lowa „The Pentathlon Approach to Translating Songs”, w którym opracował technikę tłumaczenia piosenek w taki sposób, aby stracić jak najmniej z ich znaczenia oraz wartości estetycznych.

The aim of this thesis is the analysis of melic translation of songs from English to Arabic language. The first part contains the theory of melic translation studies. The second part is the analysis of the most used strategies during the translation of texts which are meant to be performed with music. Six songs from the movie “Frozen” have been used as an example. The starting point for the analysis was Peter Low’s article “The Pentathlon Approach to Translating Songs”, in which he explained his technique of translation of songs in a way most suitable to maintain both the sense as well as the aesthetics.
