Chordophones and aerophones from the 10th - 15th centuries based on archaeological finds from selected towns and cities of Pomerania and Silesia.

Problematyką poruszaną w pracy ,,Chordofony i aerofony z X - XV w. na podstawie znalezisk archeologicznych z wybranych grodów i miast Pomorza i Śląska" są instrumenty muzyczne odkryte podczas wykopalisk archeologicznych na stanowiskach ,,protomiejskich" oraz miejskich na terenie Pomorza i Śląska. W pierwszej części autor zbadał surowiec z którego wykonywano instrumenty jak i sposób wykonania. Przeanalizował występujące przedstawienia historiograficzne oraz ikonograficzne. Następnie wyjaśnił na podstawie źródeł muzykologicznych jaka była rola muzyki w średniowiecznej kulturze. W drugiej części przedstawił znaleziska chordofonów z Europy i porównał je do tych odnalezionych na wybranych stanowiskach z Pomorza i Śląska. Rozdział III zawiera katalog instrumentów muzycznych w typie aerofonów. Znajdują się tam instrumenty dęte wykonane z drewna, poroża i kości pochodzące ze stanowisk takich jak: Opole, Wrocław, Nysa, Bardo, Puck, Elbląg, Kowalewo i Rostock. Ostatnia część została poświęcona problematyce archeologii doświadczalnej. Współczesne rekonstrukcje instrumentów muzycznych pochodzących z wykopalisk archeologicznych posłużyły jako punkt wyjścia do autorskiej próby odtworzenia jednego z elblądzkich chordofonów. Autor tworząc dokładną rekonstrukcje instrumentu zawarł w pracy wnioski dotyczące: surowca, narzędzi, budowy, barwy dźwięku, głośności, strojenia instrumentu i czasu wykonania.

The issues discussed in the work "Chordophones and aerophones from the 10th - 15th century based on archaeological finds from selected towns and cities of Pomerania and Silesia" are musical instruments discovered during archaeological excavations at "proto-urban" and municipal sites in Pomerania and Silesia. In the first part, the author examined the raw material from which the instruments were made and the way they were made. He analyzed the existing historiographic and iconographic representations. Then he explained on the basis of musicological sources what was the role of music in medieval culture. In the second part, he presented the finds of chordophones from Europe and compared them to those found at selected sites in Pomerania and Silesia. Chapter III contains a catalog of musical instruments such as aerophones. There are wind instruments made of wood, antlers and bones from sites such as: Opole, Wrocław, Nysa, Bardo, Puck, Elbląg, Kowalewo and Rostock. The last part is devoted to the issues of experimental archeology. Contemporary reconstructions of musical instruments from archaeological excavations have served as a starting point for an original attempt to recreate one of the Elbląg chordophones. By creating an exact reconstruction of the instrument, the author concluded his work with conclusions regarding: the raw material, tools, structure, timbre, volume, tuning of the instrument and time of performance.
