The colorful apocalypse : the post-apocalyptic theme in animated series for teenagers : the examples of "Adventure Time" and "Kipo and The Age of Wonderbeasts"

W artykule autor dokonuje analizy światów postapokaliptycznych przedstawionych w dwóch animowanych serialach dla dzieci i młodzieży: Adventure Time (2010–2018) oraz Kipo And The Age of Wonderbeasts (2020). Zwracając uwagę na wygląd zaprezentowanych w nich krajobrazów, kształt struktur społecznych oraz na przedstawione w nich formy relacji między bohaterami, autor postuluje czytanie owych tekstów jako krytycznych wobec współczesnej rzeczywistości i interpretujących postapokalipsę jako czas radykalnych zmian społecznych. Posługując się między innymi koncepcjami "Chthulucenu" Donny Haraway czy "queerowej sztuki porażki" Jacka Halberstama, wskazuje, w jaki sposób owe animacje paradoksalnie wartościują porażkę starego świata jako sukces, który posłużyć może do zniesienia opresyjnych hierarchii i konstruowania międzygatunkowych kooperatyw. Autor osadza oba omawiane teksty w kontekście historii animacji oraz narracji postapokaliptycznych i przekonuje, że ich wyjątkowe podejście do tematu stanowi przełomowy punkt zarówno dla medium, jak i gatunku.

The author of the research article analyses the postapocalyptic realities depicted in two animated series for children and young people: Adventure Time (2010–2018) and Kipo And The Age of Wonderbeasts (2020). Focusing on the landscapes presented in both of the series, as well as on the social structures and relationships between characters that are depicted, the author proposes reading both animatied series as being critical towards modern reality and thus depicting the postapoclyptic state as a time of radical social change. Referencing the idea of the "Chthulhucene" proposed by Donna Haraway or Jack Halberstam's "Queer Art of Failure", among others, they point to the ways in which both animated series see the failure of the old world as a success which allows the abolition of oppressive hierarchies and the creation of interspecies cooperatives. They consider the role of both series in the history of animation and postapocalyptic narratives, arguing that the unique approach to the topic is in many ways revolutionary for both the medium and the genre.
