Evolution of true crime genre - new subgenres on YouTube

Ostatnia dekada naznaczona jest znaczącym rozwojem gatunku true crime, czyli paradokumentalnych form kryminalistycznych narracji. Gatunek ten poszerzył swoje oddziaływanie w nowych mediach, obejmując nie tylko platformy streamingowe i podcastowe, ale także media społecznościowe dające twórcom możliwość eksperymentowania z formami przekazu. W pracy przedstawiono historię gatunku, jego współczesne formy, scharakteryzowano platformę YouTube oraz podjęto próbę przedstawienia przyczyn fenomenu tego gatunku. Ponadto opisano i przeanalizowano hybrydyczne formy narracji true crime łączonych z popularnymi gatunkami i konwencjami na platformie YouTube jak: ASMR, mukbangi i tutoriale makijażowe. Celem pracy było ukazanie, jak zmieniał się ten gatunek oraz jak wygląda jego współczesna konsumpcja w mediach społecznościowych. Zwrócono uwagę zarówno na nowe możliwości, jakie niesie za sobą pojawienie się tego gatunku na platformie YouTube, ale także jakie zagrożenia są z tym związane.

Over the last decade a significant growth of true crime narratives could be observed. The genre has expanded its influence in new media, spreading not only on streaming and podcasting platforms, but also on social media which give creators the opportunity to experiment with different forms. This thesis presents the history of the genre, its contemporary forms, characterizes the YouTube platform and attempts to present the reasons for the genre's popularity. In addition, hybrid forms of true crime narratives combined with popular genres and conventions on YouTube like: ASMR, mukbangs and makeup tutorials were described and analyzed. The aim of the study was to show how the genre has changed and how it is being consumed in social media today. Attention was paid both to the new opportunities brought by the appearance of this genre on YouTube, but also to the risks associated with it.
