The impact of meteorological conditions on the health and well-being of Wroclaw residents

Celem pracy jest określenie wpływu warunków meteorologicznych na samopoczucie mieszkańców Wrocławia, natomiast za hipotezę badawczą przyjęto stwierdzenie, że warunki pogodowe mają silny wpływ na zdrowie i samopoczucie człowieka. Analizie poddano typowe objawy u ludzi, spowodowane niekorzystną pogodą oraz zwrócono uwagę na choroby meteorotropowe, a więc związane z negatywnymi bodźcami atmosferycznymi. W pracy wykorzystano dane meteorologiczne ze stacji synoptycznej IMGW-PIB Wrocław Strachowice oraz wyniki przeprowadzonych przez autorkę badań ankietowych wśród Wrocławian, dotyczących ich samopoczucia w wybranych warunkach pogodowych. Charakteryzowały się one dużymi i nagłymi zmianami warunków atmosferycznych, które mogły mieć potencjalnie największy wpływ na organizm człowieka. Wyniki ankiet potwierdzają przyjętą hipotezę, że pogoda ma znaczy wpływ na samopoczucie ludzi, szczególnie w warunkach nałożenia się na siebie kilku negatywnych elementów pogody. Większość badanych osób uważa się za meteoropatów, a w szczególności młode kobiety. Ponadto, respondenci najgorzej czuli się w warunkach wysokiej wilgotności powietrza i zachmurzenia, przy wzroście ciśnienia atmosferycznego, spadku temperatury powietrza i słabym/umiarkowanym wietrze.

The purpose of this thesis is to determine the impact of meteorological conditions on the well-being of the residents of Wroclaw, while the research hypothesis was the statement that weather conditions have a strong impact on human health and well-being. Typical symptoms in humans caused by unfavorable weather were analyzed, and attention was paid to meteorotropic diseases, i.e. those related to negative atmospheric stimuli. The study used meteorological data from the synoptic station of the IMGW-PIB in Wroclaw Strachowice and the results of a survey conducted by the author among Wroclaw residents regarding their well-being in selected weather conditions. The days studied were those characterized by large and sudden changes in atmospheric conditions, which could potentially have the biggest impact on the human body. The results of the surveys confirm the hypothesis that the weather has a significant impact on people's well-being, especially in conditions of overlapping several negative weather elements. Most of the people surveyed consider themselves meteoropaths, especially young women. In addition, respondents feel the worst in conditions of high humidity and cloudiness, with an increase in atmospheric pressure, a decrease in air temperature and light/moderate wind.
