Trójjęzyczny Glosariusz Muzyczny

Głównym celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej o tytule Trilingual Glossary of Musical Terms było stworzenie trójjęzycznego glosariusza obejmującego szereg terminów z dziedziny muzyki w językach polskim, angielskim i niemieckim. Praca podzielona została na trzy główne rozdziały: dwa omawiające zakres teoretyczny oraz rozdział analityczny. W pracy omówiona została między innymi złożoność terminologii muzycznej i tworzenie wielojęzycznego glosariusza zawartego w osobnym dokumencie.W pierwszym rozdziale skupiono się na przedstawieniu terminologii jako dziedziny badań. Omówiono różne podejścia badaczy do definiowania pojęcia „termin”. Ponadto określono wzajemne powiązania terminologii i przekładoznawstwa. W pracy opisane zostały również zasady i metodologie dotyczące konstruowania glosariusza.W ramach drugiego rozdziału scharakteryzowany został rozwój europejskiej terminologii muzykologicznej i muzycznej w perspektywie historycznej. Wskazano i omówiono również wpływ języków m.in greckiego i łacińskiego, a także innych, które miały szczególne znaczenie w rozwoju tej dziedziny. Następnie wskazane zostały wybrane wyzwania tłumaczeniowe (w tym problemy tłumaczeniowe oraz powielane błędy terminologiczne) w kontekście tłumaczenia tekstów muzycznych.Trzeci rozdział ma za zadanie przedstawić proces tworzenia trójjęzycznego glosariusza muzycznego. Opisano w nim kryteria wyboru terminów oraz zastosowane metody badawcze. Ponadto, omówiono trudności napotkane podczas tworzenia glosariusza. Przeanalizowano niektóre terminy, które wydały się szczególnie problematyczne (skomplikowane językowo, odmienne ze względów kulturowych, niewystępujące w poszczególnych językach) lub interesujące. Podsumowując, niniejsza praca wraz z glosariuszem stanowi cenne źródło wiedzy na temat terminologii muzycznej. Wykonana praca może być pomocna nie tylko w tłumaczeniu, ale również w samym zrozumieniu słownictwa, ponieważ każdy termin posiada definicję stworzoną na podstawie wiarygodnych źródeł. Opracowując glosariusz autorka bazowała również na swoim doświadczeniu tłumaczeniowym zdobytym podczas pracy w Polskim Wydawnictwie Muzycznym. Wykorzystanie glosariusza w praktyce może wpłynąć pozytywnie na komunikację międzyjęzykową, tłumaczenia w tej dziedzinie i nie tylko.

The main objective of master thesis, entitled Trilingual Glossary of Musical Terms was to create a glossary presenting wide range of terms from musical field in three languages: Polish, English, and German. Structured across three main chapters (two theoretical and one analytical), the thesis outlines complexities of musical terminology and the creation of a multilingual glossary itself, which is contained in a separate document.The first chapter focuses on terminology as a research field and its objectives. It presents concept of “term” and its various definitions. Furthermore, it presents the views of many scholars who define and understand this concept in different ways. In addition, the interrelation of terminology and translation studies is discussed. This thesis also outlines the principles and methodologies in constructing a glossary. Second chapter provides a historical overview of the development of European musicological and musical terminology. It also delves into the influence of Greek and Latin languages, as well as other languages, which were essential for the growth on this field. The focus then shifts to the specific translation challenges in musical texts such as difficulties and issues in the process of translation of specialised musical terminology and possible terminological errors.Third chapter outlines the process of creation the trilingual musical glossary. It describes the employed research methods and the criteria for term selection. It also identifies and discusses some issues encountered during the glossary creation process. Furthermore, it also presents analysis of selected examples terms which were overly problematic due to, e.g., linguistic nuances, cultural differences, and lacking terminology, and also selected intriguing or interesting terms encountered during the development of the glossary. In general, this thesis provides a comprehensive approach to understanding and translating musical terminology. Together with the musical glossary, complemented by reliable definitions of presented terms, it is a valuable educational and terminological resource. In the creation of the glossary, the author drew upon her experience acquired, while working as a translator in music publishing house, PWM Edition. The glossary used in practice may have an impact on improvement of, among others, interlingual communication or musical translation to a great extent.
