“A child's encounter with an alien”. The image of a foreign culture in young adult novel "City of the Beasts" by Isabel Allende

W pracy przeanalizuję wizerunek rdzennej ludności Ameryki Południowej w powieści młodzieżowej "Miasto Bestii" pióra Isabel Allende. Skupię się na cechach i założeniach literatury młodzieżowej, reprezentowanych w tej powieści. Moim celem jest pokazanie, w jaki sposób autorka, poprzez wprowadzenie elementów fantastycznych, wzbudza zainteresowanie młodego czytelnika i wykorzystuje je do edukacji na temat procesu dojrzewania oraz przedstawicieli obcych kultur.

In this paper I will analyse the image of the people indigenous to South America in Isabel Allende's young adult novel "City of the Beasts". I will focus on the characteristics and aims of youth literature that are represented in the novel. My goal is to show how the author motivates interest in the young reader through the use of the magical elements and implies it to educate about the process of puberty and the representatives of cultures different from their own.

En el presente trabajo analizaré la imágen del indígena en la novela juvenil "La Ciudad de las Bestias" de Isabel Allende. Me centraré en las características y los objetivos de la literatura juveníl que tienen representación en la novela. El objeto es mostrar como la autora motiva interés en el lector joven, a través de elementos mágicos y lo usa para educar sobre el proceso de la pubertad y los representantes de culturas diferentes a la suya.
