Humoresques (selection) by Leo Belmont. Critical Edition

Zagadnienia podjęte w trzech rozdziałach niniejszej pracy stanowią omówienie humoresek Leo Belmonta zawartych w tej edycji z perspektywy historycznoliterackiej, biograficznej oraz poetyki tekstu. Przedstawienie pojęć związanych z komizmem, humoreską w ujęciu gatunkowym oraz przyjrzenie się sylwetce twórczej pisarza pozwoliły na podjęcie próby szczegółowej analizy i interpretacji utworów. Płynące z badania wnioski wskazują, że te krótkie formy prozatorskie publikowane przez Belmonta w dodatku do własnego czasopisma nie opierają się wyłącznie na jednym modelu. Stanowią natomiast doskonały przykład płynności cechującej ten gatunek nie tylko na płaszczyźnie formalnej, ale i problematyki. Korzystanie z różnych strategii narracyjnych i schematów fabularnych, a także zarówno z komizmu prostego, jak i satyrycznego są głównymi argumentami potwierdzającymi tę konstatację. Jednocześnie warto podkreślić, że zastosowane w utworach rodzaje wspomnianych środków wpisują teksty Belmonta w nurty obecne w twórczości humorystycznej Młodej Polski. Ponadto, mając na uwadze komercyjny charakter czasopisma „Wolne Słowo” oraz zainteresowanie autora tematyką sensacyjną, można również z powodzeniem odnaleźć w nich znamiona literatury popularnej, która w późniejszym okresie twórczości pisarza zdominowała jego dorobek.

The issues raised in the three chapters of this work are a discussion of Leo Belmont's humorous texts contained in this edition from a historical and literary perspective, a biographical and poetic perspective. The presentation of concepts related to comedy, humoresque in terms of genres and a look at the writer's creative silhouette allowed him to attempt a detailed analysis and interpretation of the works. The conclusions of the study indicate that these short prose forms published by Belmont in addition to his own magazine are not based solely on one model. Instead, they are an excellent example of the fluidity characterizing this species not only on the formal level, but also issues. The use of various narrative strategies and plot patterns, as well as both simple and satirical comedy, are the main arguments confirming this statement. At the same time, it is worth emphasizing that the types of the abovementioned means used in the works put Belmont's texts in the currents of the humorous work of Young Poland. In addition, given the commercial nature of the magazine "Wolne Słowo" and the author's interest in sensational themes, one can also find in them the features of popular literature, which later dominated the writer's oeuvre.
