Lśnienie Kinga i Lśnienie Kubricka: Analiza Postaci

Celem pracy jest ocena zmian dokonanych w zakresie fabuły oraz przedstawieniu bohaterów powieści Stephena Kinga pt. Lśnienie, które zostały wprowadzone przez Stanleya Kubricka w filmowej adaptacji tego utworu. Tematem pracy jest wpływ wprowadzonych zmian na zakończenie adaptacji oraz sylwetki głównych bohaterów, z położeniem szczególnego nacisku na postać Jacka Torrance’a oraz Hotel Overlook. Wstęp zawiera informacje dotyczące celu pracy oraz uzasadnienie wyboru tematu. W rozdziale pierwszym przedstawione zostały podstawowe informacje na temat adaptacji, z uwzględnieniem istotnej roli muzyki w gatunku horroru. Rozdział drugi zawiera opisy głównych bohaterów Jacka, Wendy, Danny’ego oraz Hotelu Overlook z podkreśleniem istotnych różnic w odbiorze tych postaci pomiędzy powieścią a adaptacją filmową. W podsumowaniu pracy określono jakim rodzajem adaptacji jest Lśnienie Kubricka, a także zamieszczono informacje na temat przyczyn wprowadzonych zmian oraz skutków wynikających z powstałych niespójności pomiędzy utworem literackim a filmem.

The thesis explores the changes in the plot and the characters in Stanley Kubrick’s movie adaptation of The Shining, originally created by Stephen King. The main concern of this work is the impact of the changes made by Kubrick, mainly regarding the ending of the adaptation and the characters, with Jack Torrance and The Overlook Hotel as the main focus. The introduction of the thesis provides a reader with the main aims of this work and the reasons behind it. Chapter one presents some basic information about the theory of adaptation, including the important role of music in the horror genre. The second chapter describes, respectively, the image of Jack, Wendy and Danny Torrance, as well as the Overlook Hotel in both the novel and the movie, often highlighting the changes. The thesis ends with conclusions that provide more reasons for the differences between the novel and its movie adaptation alongside the consequences of those inconsistencies. The conclusions also sum up what type of adaptation Kubrick’s The Shining is.
