Różnorodność postaci kobiecych w powieści Duma i Uprzedzenie autorstwa Jane Austen

Niniejsza praca przedstawia analizę różnych aspektów życia kobiet w XIX wieku na podstawie książki „Duma i uprzedzenie” autorstwa Jane Austen w odniesieniu do postaci kobiecych w niej przedstawionych. W pierwszym rozdziale opisałam kontekst historyczny i sytuację socjoekonomiczną kobiet w Wielkiej Brytanii w XIX wieku, a także styl autorki i tematykę jej dzieł. W drugim przedstawiłam życie rodzinne i społeczne klasy średniej na podstawie rodziny Bennetów, jednocześnie analizując każdą z sześciu kobiet do niej należących. Trzeci rozdział poświęciłam analizie więzów kobiecej przyjaźni ukazanych w powieści. W ostatnim rozdziale skoncentrowałam się na kilku bohaterkach i ich poglądach na temat małżeństwa i miłości. Pracę zakończyłam wnioskiem, że książka „Duma i Uprzedzenie” ukazuje ogromną różnorodność, szczegółowo i realistycznie opisanych postaci kobiecych, oraz że każda z nich służy określonemu celowi literackiemu.

The following thesis presents an analysis of the various aspects of the life of the 19th-century women, in relation to women character based on Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. In the first chapter, I have described the historical context and women’s socio-economic situation in Great Britain in the 19th century, the author’s style, and her works’ main themes. In the second, I have presented the family and social life of the middle class on the example of the Bennet family while analysing each of the six women belonging to it. I have devoted the third chapter to the analysis of examples of women friendship depicted in the novel. Finally, in the last chapter, I have concentrated on a couple of heroines and their views on matrimony and love. My thesis ends with the conclusion that there is a great diversity of women, accurately and realistically portrayed in Pride and Prejudice, and that each of them serves a specific purpose in the story.
