Transhumanizm w powieściach Jeanette Winterson "Kamienni bogowie" oraz "Frankissstein: A Love Story"

Praca bada przedstawienie elementów transhumanistycznych w wybranych powieściach Jeanette Winterson, tj. „Kamienni bogowie” oraz „Frankissstein: A Love Story”, analizując ukazane w powieściach perspektywy na miłość, tożsamość, a także etyczne aspekty integrowania ludzkości z technologią. Rozdział pierwszy ma na celu przybliżenie historii i ewolucji pojęcia transhumanizmu, wprowadza również pojęcia „transczłowieka” i „postczłowieka”, a także krótko omawia kilka metod przedłużania życia za pomocą nauki. Analizowane są również etyczne aspekty rozwoju technologicznego. Rozdział kończy się przedstawieniem literackiej perspektywy na transhumanizm. Rozdział drugi analizuje w jaki sposób powieści Winterson przedstawiają integrację ludzkości z technologią, poruszając przy tym kwestie tożsamości, miłości oraz relacji między człowiekiem a maszyną. Ostatni rozdział podsumowuje wcześniejsze ustalenia, podkreślając krytyczne podejście Winterson do niektórych aspektów transhumanizmu, jej obawy dotyczące ryzyka dyskryminacji kobiet oraz znaczenie utrzymania etycznych standardów w obliczu szybko postępującego rozwoju technologicznego.

This thesis explores the portrayal of transhumanist elements in Jeanette Winterson’s selected novels, i.e. “The Stone Gods” and “Frankissstein: A Love Story”, examining their perspectives on love, identity and the ethical implications of integrating humanity and technology. Chapter 1 provides an overview of transhumanism, introduces the concepts of the “transhuman” and the “posthuman”, and discusses various methods of life extension. It then examines the ethical aspects of technological advancements, concluding with a literary perspective on transhumanism. Chapter 2 analyses how Winterson’s novels portray the integration of humanity and technology, raising questions about identity, love, and the human-machine relationship. The final section concludes the previous findings, emphasising Winterson’s critical approach to certain aspects of the transhumanist movement, her concerns regarding possible discrimination against women, and the importance of maintaining ethical standards in the light of rapid technological progress.
