Traumatic experiences in childhood as a mediator of a therapeutic relationship in the therapy of addiction to psychoactive substances

W niniejszym eseju poruszono kwestię mediującej roli doświadczenia traumy w dzieciństwie na relację terapeutyczną w terapii uzależnień od substancji psychoaktywnych. Przedstawiono wieloaspektowe ujęcie traumy – jej wymiar subiektywny i obiektywny, aspekty psychologiczne, biologiczne i egzystencjalne. Poza negatywnymi konsekwencjami doświadczeń traumatycznych, takimi jak zaburzenia psychiczne, neurobiologiczne oraz zniekształcone schematy relacyjne, wskazano również na możliwość wzrostu potraumatycznego. Przedstawiono w jaki sposób trauma doznana w dzieciństwie oraz jej konsekwencje oddziałują na relacje interpersonalne, a w konsekwencji na relację terapeutyczną w terapii uzależnień, stanowiącą istotny element leczenia. Wskazano także na istotną rolę doświadczeń traumatycznych terapeuty na kształtowanie się relacji terapeutycznej.

This essay discusses the issue of the mediating role of trauma experience in childhood on the therapeutic relationship in the treatment of addictions to psychoactive substances. It is presented a multi-aspect approach to trauma - its subjective and objective dimensions, psychological, biological and existential aspects. Apart from the negative consequences of traumatic experiences, such as psychiatric disorders, neurobiological and distorted relational patterns, the possibility of posttraumatic growth was also indicated. It is showed how the trauma experienced in childhood and its consequences affect interpersonal relations and, consequently, the therapeutic relationship in addiction therapy, which is an important element of treatment. It is indicated also the important role of traumatic experiences of the therapist on the shaping of the therapeutic relationship.
