A contribution to the study of multisyllable rhyming and its culture in Polish rap music

Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie występującego w rapie i poezji zjawiska stylistycznego, jakim jest multisylabizm, nazywany tudzież rymowaniem wielokrotnym. Badanie to podyktowane jest nieobecnością wyczerpujących analiz multisylabizmu w historii wersologii – brak ten wydaje się istotny do uzupełnienia z uwagi na wzrastającą w ostatnich latach popularność rapu, gatunku muzycznego, w którym rym wielokrotny jest nadzwyczaj rozpowszechniony. Praca postara się więc rzetelnie usystematyzować wiedzę na temat multisylabizmu, dotychczas kultywowaną głównie na niszowych internetowych forach hip-hopowych, i, po językoznawczym wstępie, zbadać kulturę, która wytworzyła się wokół tego zjawiska w polskich środowiskach hiphopowych.

The aim of this paper is to examine the stylistic phenomenon occurring in rap and poetry known as multisyllabic rhyming, sometimes referred to as compound rhyming. This inquiry is dictated by the absence of comprehensive analyses of multisyllabic rhyming in the history of versification studies – a lack that seems important to fill in view of the recently increasing popularity of rap, a musical genre in which compound rhyming is extremely prevalent. The paper will thus attempt to thoroughly systematize the knowledge of multisyllabic rhyme, hitherto cultivated mainly in niche internet hip-hop forums, and, following a linguistic introduction, examine the culture that has developed around this phenomenon in Polish hip-hop circles.
